Hi,
I can no longer view videos on Comedy Central and it makes no difference if I change browsers. To date I have tried viewing videos using Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Google Chrome so I'm convinced it has something to do with either flash or my firewall, but I don't know where to start. Also, the problem is isolated to comedy central which returns this error each time I try to access their site:
Error loading stylesheet. RSL http://media.mtvnservices.com/global/flex/rsl/framework_3.2.0.3958.swz failed to load. Error #2046
Here's a screen shot of what's happening:
I've read that there are other suffering from the same problem, the the steps to diagnose are not to be found. Most people remedied the problem by reinstalling flash, which didn't work for me. I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit, and I'd be grateful for any assistance. Thanks
The server at media.mtvnservices.com is misconfigured. It is serving the .swz file with a content type of text/html. That content type should be application/x-swz. The website operator should correct this. If you report the issue to them, point them to http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/402/kb402864.html
Hi Pat, This thread caught my eye since I have been helping someone that is having a problem also with this site.
I didn't have any problem at all with it and viewed any video that I chose. I checked two a couple of days ago, and just now again. Video was fine and audio also. (10:30PM EDT U.S.)
My Desktop that I used is XP/SP3, IE6, FP 10.0.45.2.
I'm not taking anything away from anyone that has a different experience, just thot you might be interested.
Thanks,
eidnolb

However, I can access the videos on my mac so I don't think its the server so it must be something with my configuration. Any other ideas?
Why would I invest more time in helping you? You are unwilling to follow
up on my comment that the server is misconfigured (which is verifiably
true), so what is to say you will follow up on other suggestions I may
have? Not to mention that the problem may go away once the server is
fixed, making any effort I invest into this a waste of time.

OK, I wrote to them:

It just seems to me that if I can see the same video from another computer (my mac) in my apartment, then it can't be the server. I guess that the flash implementation on mac is more robust and can tolerate a mis-configured server?

Considering it first occurred as a network error and the netwerk
functionality is not in the Flash Player but in the browser, I doubt it
is in the Flash Player. Maybe your other system has a filter running
(from the antivirus software or something) that verifies content versus
the content-type and filters it out. Maybe you have a proxy that does
so. Maybe it is in the WinHTTP library. Maybe it is not the server
config after all. But let's eliminate that first because we know what is
wrong and how to fix it.
SOLUTION:
On Ubuntu 10.04, 64bit computer
I was getting the error on my home computer but not on my laptop.
After literally 50 attempts to install flash, uninstall flash, I tarred my home directory
from the laptop to the home computer, and swapped the /home/myname directories
and it worked.
So the problem is not with the flash player. And it is not with the browser. It seems to
be something in the home directory. I had tried to swap out both .adobe and .macromedia
directories, but that didn't work. There is something else in the home directory that blocks
the loading of the swz file.
If you do not have a working laptop (also 64 bit) as I did, try installing a new user on the
computer and perhaps the new user will get a working /home directory.
Good luck.
I have found that if I get the embed code from Comedy Central, pull out the URL and paste it into my address bar, then I can see the video. I noticed that the Comedy Central embed code sets very few flash variables compared to what YouTube sets. I wonder if there is a problem with default values or some such. In the meantime, you can still see the videos with a little additional pain. I won't embed Comedy Central videos in my blog until they fix this problem.
How about registering a complaint with Comedy Central? If enough of us complain, they might do something.
