Is anyone having trouble with Dreamweaver CS5?

*IS* the Spry Assets folder within the root of the site?  What is the path to the root folder you are using?

Have you setup your site properly?

If you have a look at the following dialog you will see that you can specify a SpryAssets folder if you use Spry. Just leave it empty if you do not use Spry. All very simple.

If this is not related to your problem, then maybe you should explain yourself so that we can join in the fun.

The Problem (as far as I can deduct from your ravings)

Everytime the page is saved, a warning message appears noting that the SpryAssets folder is outside of the root directory.

    The Solution (trial and error)

    1. Personally I would first of all clear the cache as per http://www.dmxzone.com/go?16740 and restart DW
    2. Then I would go into site setup and make sure that all my settings are correct.
I have noticed that a SpryAssets directory location is required. Just make sure that it is within the root folder.

    Maybe this will help.

I found the problem.  Your site files must be loaded within the hard drive directory as opposed to "...user/whatever."  I have no idea why this is.

Copy your site folder (with files), open Finder (which you might be in since you're copying a folder), click on your device name, open the hard drive ( I named mine macHD ), and then open the Applications folder.  Create a New Folder (name of your choice) within Applications and paste your site folder (with files) within this new folder. When D/W prompts you to enter the Spry folder, choose the browse button, and in Finder click on whatever your device name is under "Devices," click the hard drive, open applications, open then new folder and click (highlight) your site folder.  Hit save in D/W.  Took me five days to figure this out.  I have no idea if other folders within the hard drive will work.  I just put mine in applications because.

I think Adobe needs to fix this issue. I know that there are a few frustrated users out there.

Agreed but you need to let them know via the official form

    https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

Adobe repeatedly insists that they read info submitted to them via that form. There's no guarantee that they'll see this thread in the forums.

If you tell them officially, they cannot say they weren't told.

I worked with the Adobe guys for 2.5 hours yesterday and even they had no idea what the deal was.  I saw your post on another site (or maybe the same, it was through bing and I was binged out) and it gave me the idea to try this.  Adobe TV needs to have a video on HOW TO INSTALL DREAMWEAVER ON A MAC.  Would have saved me days of frustration.  Best wishes to all.  Once D/W gets up and running, it's a pretty bad-A product.

John:  I worked with Adobe today and via remote, showed them what I did.  They captured a video of my "fix" and said they would up-channel it.  We'll see.

MAC USERS ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS RENAME YOUR HARD DRIVE!!

Which of course will break a lot of other things like, for instance, all of your other site definitions. So this really is not a solution.

Has anyone discovered another soultion to this since this post? I am tearing my hair out. I never even used any spry assets, nor have I ever had a spry folder or needed one.

I do not want to break the links to my other sites.

Judy:  Are you trying to install Dreamweaver?  If you are, you don't need to rename anything.  It just needs to be installed in the applications folder.  I fought and fought with Adobe and they had no idea how to fix this problem.  I just installed the whole works in the applications folder and it worked for me.

Hi, no, I have had cs5 installed for a while, and I have used it successfully for ages.

Now suddenly it is not working.

I can't even create a NEW site without this asset folder issue, so it isn't just the site I am trying to manage.

I am about ready to scream.

Sorry, I realize this is a little vague. This is the problem I am having related to the very first post in this stream.

I am unable to create a new site or  manage  sites. Upon save Dreamweaver tells me "WARNING: The Spry assets  folder  is not inside the site. Please select a valid folder in your  local site  root."

Re: Is anyone having trouble with Dreamweaver CS5?

Judy:  That was exactly what DW displayed when I tried to use it outside of the applications folder after installing it for the first time.  You said your DW was already installed.  I just updated my DW and it deleted my password and user name.  Second time it has done this.  Did you just update?  If you did, I don't know what to say that will help you.  It's possible that DW changed a setting in your account info.  I don't understand why Adobe can't, or won't, fix this issue for Mac users.

    Sorry,

    ken
