Couple of things here.

You may want to correct a typo on your page:

The verbiage you are using in the second example is suggesting that there is a bug with the slidelet. I'm not sure I'd classify the second "sticky" example as a real issue. It may not be the behavior some would like to see, but it's certainly behaving as I've always known Slidelets to behave.

Here's the deal. Let's examine the word slidelet. Sort of implies a "mini slide" doesn't it? Certainly we are able to insert Buttons or Click Boxes (or even Text Entry Boxes) on regular slides to keep them paused indefinitely. But we can't insert such objects inside a Slidelet. I'm unsure of the technical reasons why, but the fact is we just can't. At least at the present version 5. The slidelet was timed to present for five seconds. It is doing exactly that. The presentation doesn't care if the mouse is hovering the slidelet to keep it visible or if it has been clicked to keep it visible. It just has the "self destruct" timer set for five seconds. Fortunately you are able to adjust the timing to be what you want. You could make it 60 or 90 seconds if you like. And if you did that, it might provide the illusion that it is remaining on the screen indefinitely. In that case, the close box would make total sense. They may interact with the slidelet areafor perhaps 20 seconds, then wish to dismiss the slidelet.

I'm not sure what you are saying about the animations.

There should be no need to ever make a slide as long as you have (999 seconds) not sure why you made it that long. Remember, Buttons and Click Boxes will pause a slide until your user commands it to move. I sense you timed it that long because you wanted the rollover to remain visible? Not sure. If you want the rollover to remain visible, you could have the slide timed for 3 seconds and pausing at 1.5. Then just use a rollover image.

Ummm, please excuse the post because I know it will sound a bit snarky regardless of how I word it. I just want you to know I'm really not trying to be snarky. OK?

Captivate was designed as a Software Demonstration, Simulation and eLearning platform. Your description of why you are presently frustreated seems to be that you are finding major faults with it because you are trying to use it for something which it was never intended. This is similar to purchasing a band saw, then later complaining because it doesn't neatly and efficiently slice through the patio paving stones that were purchased.

I understand that you don't wish to employ any Buttons or Click Boxes. But sometimes we have to employ a feature for a specific reason. In your case the reason would appear to be that you need the slide to just pause and wait for rollover interactions to occur. And if you use a Click Box, it will do exactly that. This is probably the very reason that the development team created one of the actions to be that of "no action" when clicked. So the only reason for having the Click Box would be to pause the movie when you want.

So you pause the slide with the Click Box, then have all the Rollover Captions or Rollover Images you want.
