Advice on Converter for AVCHD to something Premiere Can Edit?

Sep 12, 2010 1:30 AM

I'm dealing with some footage from a consumer camcorder in AVCHD, but Premiere CS3 refuses to

import it.

I have looked for converters on Google and tried five different converters. They all produced horrible results.

Does anyone have a converter that they recommend that does a lossless conversion to something like Quicktime or XDCam format?

    Quicktime is just a file format, not a video format.  It can contain many different kind of video.

    Like AVCHD, XDCAM is also a lossy format.

    I personally would recommend upgrading to CS5, which can handle the footage natively.

    What Ann said, or read Convert AVCHD to HDV

    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/390605?tstart=0 (but I don't do that, so don't know if it will work with CS3)

    our quad core machines didn't have enough power to run CS4

    That I find veeeeery difficult to believe.  Were it not you, the first thing I'd point to is Operator Error.

    I've had no problems editing the stuff with my i7 using CS4.
