Since updating Adobe Standard to 9.3.4, all our hyperlinks are broken. It appears that if we put the linked document (Excel or Word) in the same path as the PDF (ie; both PDF and document are on the desktop) then the links work. However, the way our files are set up, all the PDF's are in one directory and all the linked documents are in a different location. They worked fine prior to the update; now none of them work.
I have tested this on two other computers. Works fine prior to running the update. Once the update is installed, none of the links work.
I've also entered a bug report for the issue for Pro Extended 9.3.4.
If you are lucky enough to also have Reader 9.3.3 or earlier installed, the linking will still work correctly in Reader (and now I have to remember to NOT update Reader when I'm prompted until they get this fixed). I assume if you update Reader it will have the same issue, since it's the same security patch/fix.
The most annoying thing is that you can't uninstall the 9.3.4 patch to resolve the issue.
As a workaround, you can try the following:
Keep both the PDF and Office document in the same folder.
If the office document is on a network location, then keep the PDF as well on the same network location and create a shortcut on the desktop to access that PDF.
Also, if you use File > Open to open the PDF, the hyperlinks to non-PDF files may not work correctly. So as a workaround double click the PDF file to open it.
Hope that helps!
We have already discovered that putting everything in the same folder works. HOWEVER, we are a large agency, and all our auditors are using a standardized procedure as to where files are to be placed. We would have to move tons of files around to make this work. What we need is a solution from Adobe...and quickly!!!
I am still having problems trying to open a wmv file. I put the wmv in the same folder as the pdf yet it still will not open for me.
I have a pdf in a root that links to a pdf \folder\folder\1.pdf then that links to a 2.pdf in the same folder. Then 2.pdf has a link to open a wmv that is in the same folder.
Help on this will be greatly appreciated.
I have an open ticket with Adobe on this issue and have had since 9/9. I first called about this on August 30 and got them to acknowledge that this was a problem caused by the update to 9.3.4. They did not give me a case number that day, simply told me that they were aware of the problem and they were working on it. I asked how would I know when it was resolved and the curt response was "when an update is released." Well, 10 days later, no fix, so I called again and after having a hissy fit because they wanted to charge me to open a ticket on something I could PROVE was caused by this upgrade, I finally got a case number and supposedly got this escalated to Tier 1 support. "Someone will contact you within 72-96 hours." Well, that ended yesterday. No response. I called them on Tuesday and after holding for 52 minutes (yes, I have a timer on my phone, and yes, it was 52 minutes) someone finally came on and told me I could expect a call either that afternoon or the next day. "The next day" was yesterday. I've heard nothing. We have only been using Acrobat for about 6 months in our state agency (I have over 60 people using Adobe with hyperlinks). I can say without a doubt that Adobe Tech Support and Adobe's response to customer problems SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
