How do I add multiple spaces?

I am using Dreamweaver 11.0 / CS5 on a Windows 7 PC.

 

In the preview editor I am trying to add a space in front of some text. Hitting the spacebar does NOTHING.

 

It should be adding a   or at least doing SOMETHING.

 

Help!

    Two ways to do it:

     

    CTRL+SHIFT+SPACEBAR

     

    or

     

    Go to your Dreamweaver preferences Edit->Preferences and under the general category check "Allow Multiple Consecutive Spaces"

    If Using a Mac its  OPTION SPACE

    Thanks much for the response! I looked for the that preference initially but must have missed it. I adjusted the settings and retested.

     

    It appears that after doing this the software behaves by adding a space, then a  . Not sure why on earth it would do that, as it is less elegant IMHO.

     

    The original issue is fixed and thanks again for the responses.

    It's to reduce the bandwidth (size) of the code. It's fairly common to see that done in preference to the alternative of multiple contiguous non-breaking spaces.

     

    But using spaces to properly position page elements is a poor choice.

    I disagree with both of your assertions.

     

    Furthermore, this approach would introduce the possibility of a premature or inappropriately placed line break.

     

    "<tr><td>foobear  foobear</td></tr>"

     

    and

     

    "<tr><td>foobear  foobear</td></tr>"

     

    will behave differently under certain conditions.

    Old problem with every version dreamweaver, CTRL+SHIFT+SPACEBAR is the easiest way.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

     

    Control-Al-Spacebar gives you repeating  .

    Spacebar gives you &nbps; then a space.

     

    I find this behavior odd and almost bug-like. I will TRY to remember to use the control alt spacebar.:)
