<Homer>Qatar, eh?</Homer>
I was disappointed by the selection of Russia and shocked that England's bid wasn't a serious contender (what more could England have done? Punished for being a great footballing nation?!?) but I cannot believe Qatar got selected, despite FIFA's desire to spread the game around the globe. For many reasons, the Qatar choice seems a major mistake to me. Reason #1: They anticipate having 95,000 hotel rooms, which isn't nearly enough for the visitors they'll need to fill the stadia for 64 matches. And, 2: the outside fanzones in Germany and South Africa were a huge part of the fun for those who went to the last two World Cups, with throngs of people and huge screens to watch other matches going on -- but that will be impossible in Qatar with temperatures in June/July beyond oppressive.
I couldn't agree more - on the grounds of the 40°C heat alone.
As for Russia, there must be big questions their over economic and political stability, infrastructure and general freedom of movement.
Blatter's lost the the plot, If he didn't want another World Cup on the western edge of Europe, that should have been a condition of application.
Crazy.

Exactly - Blatter first, forget football.
Sooner he goes, the better.
Not just him BigJohn... a whole lot of that corrupt bunch... they're all liars and thieves... it's gone beyond a joke... Qatar as hosts to a World Cup?! There'll be more visitors than their entire population!!! Where on earth will they put them? But by then, Blatter will be dead anyway... so none of his concern...
Maybe the UK should initiate the start of an alternate to FIFA...???
I am american. But Americans think that "our" football is so much better. It is not. It is completely bogged down with rules, 2 minutes takes half an hour, excessive fanfare for even the most insignificant of plays. Players whose job is SO specialized that they walk on to the field maybe once a game...how is this interesting. Just like nascar, the fans are just there to see someone hurt, why do we even disguise it we should just bring back the colliseum and let them kill each other. Also, you ever see any hot chicks at Football games? Let me rephrase, ever see any under 300 pounds? Football serves as a constant reminder of our national obesity and our short attention spans. Someone said that they can only watch soccer for about a quarter at a time without becoming bored.... they are called halves I believe. And all the running is great, a pro futballer has to be able to run a six minute mile... how many footballers can do this? How many offensive linemen can walk to the fridge without running out of breath. I love a nil nil game, I LOVE watching the plays set up for the perfect through ball that beats the offsides call. There is nothing that can compare to a great corner kick. I'm sure someone will complain about all the falls that they take, yes this sucks and there should be two more refs and four more linesmen in my opinion, but in all sports the rules are bent as far as possible, that is just the nature of competition. I find Soccer truly awesome to watch and I wish our country would embrace it more, it would serve to make us slightly more palettable to the rest of the world. But Hockey is better. And Golf is the worst, to watch, I mean.... c'mon, really?
Lots of goals JK3. You just need to pay attention!
Shocking developments at Anfield this past week, and I feel bitterly let down by Torres. He isn't to blame for most of the woes of the past two seasons, but his troubles surely added significantly to the poor overall performance of the team. And yet, I never heard complaints from Reds fans while he struggled for form this season or to recover from injuries last season, Then he professes his intent to stay, and cuts out for Chelski a few months later when the new owners and King Kenny are just beginning to turn things around. I guess if he wanted out, let him go, and I'm happy with the new signings!
Go Reds!!
Anfield needed some high profile activity, and they certainly got it! It's far better than Konchevsky and the other mediocrity. Babel has much promise but rarely showed it.
Torres wasn't happy, not least that the prospects of action in the Euro Champs league isn't likely for two seasons, so I can see he wanted to move for that. And the fact Hodgson rarely gave Torres the attacking support he needed, playing a single striker.
.
Andy Carroll is definitely the man of the moment, even if some of his off-field antics are dodgy. He and Luis Suárez are still young but have great experience, so the future's bright as King Kenny brings back two front men.
It's Stoke City on Wed (KO 20:00 GMT) with the return of StevieG and then Chelsea v LFC on Sunday (KO 16:00 GMT) who will be looking for revenge for the 2-0 beating at Anfield when Torres scorred both goals. So will Torres be playing on Sunday? How will Agger/Kyrgiakos/Skrtel handle him?
Get tuned in!!
Top result yesterday! I arrived back in the UK from Aus via Dubai to the result!
Meanwhile, Fergy is slowly losing it and becoming an embarrassment to his club -
while King Kenny remains cool.
Braga in Portugal is the next match…
I watched the 2nd half of The Arsenal at Barcelona back on the 8th. It was a cracker (as you people say!) but such a shame that the ref sent Van Persie off for not hearing the whistle at a packed stadium. He took his shot ONE second after the whistle, and got shown red. I never heard the whistle on tv, and was stunned by the poor decision.
Meanwhile, here's to a strong finish for the Reds in the Prem.
There have been some serious errors of judgement by referees, the majority of which TV can resolve. But Emperor Blatter in his virtual country of FIFA won't have it.
And yes, let's hope LFC have a strong finish to the season and maybe make 5th and a place in Europe next season.
The performance v Braga lacked creativity and leadership.
