I've read the other discussions but haven't really seen an answer yet and the typical responses don't seem to apply to my situation. Here is my situation:
I'm am getting corrupted RAW files after importing into LR. Typically this is blamed on Hardware issues but I don't think that is the case for me. I am getting 1 corrupt file per 100 or so imported. I've had it happen using different CF cards. And the file doesn't seem to be corrupt on transfering to my hard drive. I'm using a Canon 40D. Using Lightroom 3.2 64bit. I shoot in RAW. Here is my work flow.
Process of elimination leads me to believe that the corruption happens on importing into Lightroom. It isn't my cards (different cards same problem). It isn't my external hardrive as the file copied from that drive is fine. It seems random especially being that I can overwrite the file with the same file and then it is fine.
I really hope this problem is sovled quickly. This to me is a BIG deal. Any other ideas?
I keep reading the hardware answer but as I said, images are not corrupt until after importing into LR. If it is hardware what would it be? I've spent hours running through each hardware piece. Happening to different CF cards, different cables. Nothing else stored on my hard drive is having problems. Only RAW image files that I've imported into LR. Belive me, I'll replace hardware if that is it but where do I start?

Hard drive, hard drive controller (likely on the motherboard), hard drive cable. Those would be my guess.
I've imported approximately 400,000 images with LR without a single one going corrupt so I doubt it's the software.
After you copy your backup to your hard drive overwriting the corrupt one, do you import again? Do they go corrupt again?
All raw files have a a built-in jpeg preview that the camera produces. That is the same preview that you see on the back of the camera. Most programs that you would use to view your raw files use that jpeg, not the raw data.
The jpeg is lots smaller than the raw data, so if there is corruption in the file, the odds are that it will occur in the raw data, not in the included preview. Lightroom only shows you the raw file's preview for a short time, while it is generating a new preview from the raw data. If the raw data is corrupted, this can give the impression that LR is corrupting your files.
Like everybody else who has replied, I urge you to look hard at your hardware. Deteriorating disks can yield odd and confusing problems that seem to defy logic. I've been there, and it's no fun to be mystified. I suspect that flaky memory can also give strange, inconsistent results. And like the other posters pointed out, LR just copies your files from one place to another, but it doesn't make any changes, so the odds are very high that you aren't looking at a Lightroom bug.

Thanks, I'll think I'll go ahead and invest in a new hard drive.
I know about the jpeg preview thing. The corruption doesn't show until you attempt until it renders the image at full size pulling from the raw. I know it isn't a display thing as exporting the raw to a jpeg still shows the corruption. The file is corrupted and attempting to open it with other programs shows the corruption. It seems odd that the corruption doesn't happen when being placed on the hard drive from my camera as my back up shows no corruption. The corruption is happening at a later point. Would an image start out fine on a hard drive and then end up corrupting apart from any program changing it?

I've seen things like that happen with a faulty drive. Your problem could be happening when the file was copied to its current location. It could also happen that the location the file ended up in is a place on the disk that doesn't hold its magnetism very well, or that the drive itself got confused and wrote other data on top of the previously good raw file. If the volume data that keeps track of free sectors is corrupt, ordinary file writes could corrupt random files all over the disk.

I am having this too... I have imported to several drives and this seems to be plaguing us on two computers. Some experimentation... I have tried deleting and reimporting the images with the issue only to have them come back the same, BUT, as a work around, if I copy the images directly to my image library folder using explorer, the images will import to the library with no issues. Any ideas?
I posted up above over a year ago. I ended up doing two different things and I haven't had a problem since. First, I scanned my external hard drive for errors and fixed those. Second, I noticed a little damage to the mini-usb port on my camera and I no longer import using the camera. I haven't had a damaged file since. I wish I could say for sure which one fixed the problem but I can't. In the end though the problem was with hardware not LR software.

This part of your description is unclear. Do you let Lightroom move or copy the files during import, or have you already placed them in their final destination folder prior to import?
Edit:
I just now realized that the thread is from 2010. But I am still curious.
