When I hit the button "CS News and Resources" in Photoshop CS5 I get always: "0 results found". Can someone explain why?
Thank you.
Hmmm. I get 11 items in my list - not sure why you are not seeing something there.
First thing I would check would be Preferences > Plug-ins, and under "Extension Panels" make sure that all three options are checked.
Typically, if you don't allow extensions to connect to the internet, you should see a dialog warning you that your network preferences prevent Photoshop from accessing a server. However, there are other ways that one can block (or attempt to block) network access, by manually editing/renaming/moving various files/plists/registry entries. Do you know if you or someone else has made any custom modifications like that?
Hope that helps.

David,
Thank you for your answer. All three options are checked in "Preferences > Plug-ins and no "plist" file has been moved, modified or deleted. It seems that Photoshop does connect to the server ( I see the "rotating wheel") but than doesn't get any result.
Recently also Adobe Media Player didn't display any content from the server. Do you think that I can have a problem in my Adobe Air installation? Do you suggest uninstalling and reinstalling Air and, in this case, how completely remove Air?
Thank you and Best Regards

Hello Raimondo,
Before resorting to uninstalling/reinstalling anything, my first suggestion would be to see if you have any updates that you have not installed. Go to Help > Updates... and let the Adobe Application Manager check for updates. If any are listed there, download and instal them (all of them) and see if that fixes things.
Hope that helps.
Raimondo,
Well. a reinstallation may be the next step if you really want to get this part working. But before going there, if it were me, I'd ask: is everything else working? If everything else is working fine (including CS Review) then you might want to weigh the inconvenience of messing about with an uninstall then reinstall (which may require some additional manual steps - details below) versus the value of getting the "CS News and Resources" panel working. FWIW, here's what you would see in your CS News and Resources panel if it were functioning (this is what I get - the items in bold are links):
and...
For some users, having these links would provide some additional value. For other users, maybe not so much. I'll let you be the judge of that.
If you do decide that you want to go through the hoops to reinstall, then I would suggest the following:
1. First, be sure to deactivate your apps (Help > Deactivate) to avoid headaches upon reinstallation. Also be sure you have your serial number(s) and original media handy for reinstallation.
2. Uninstall all CS5 apps and (important - be sure to do this...) run the Adobe CS5 Cleaner Tool as instructed in the following document:
"Resolve installation problems with the CS5 Cleaner Tool"
3. After completing the uninstallation and the cleaner script, restart your computer.
4. Next, locate the "CS5ServiceManager" folder, and if it is present on your system, manually delete it and all its contents (location depends on your OS):
MacOS: <hard drive>\Library\Application Support\Adobe\CS5ServiceManager
Windows 7, Vista 64: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\CS5ServiceManager
Windows XP: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\CS5ServiceManager
5. Reinstall the CS5 apps. During the installation process, if prompted for your Adobe ID (login and password), be sure to enter it there (rather than clicking "Skip").
6. In any of the CS5 apps, check for updates (Help > Updates...). Be sure to download and install all updates that are available.
7. Launch any of the CS Review host applications (e.g. Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere), and sign in to CS Live. Check and see if the CS News and Resources panel is functional (and after all that, I hope it is...).
Note that there may be an additional update specifically for CS Review as well. The CS Review update mechanism is different from that used for the CS5 desktop apps. To get the latest CS Review update, just sign out from CS Live, and sign back in. The CS Review update should take place in the background, and although it's a tiny, quick download, it may take up to 24 hours for it to come through.
I hope this helps. If not, let us know.
Thank you David for your answer.
I din't yet reinstall Photoshop CS5. Before facing this step ( but I'm not sure that I'll really do it
), a last question: do you think that my problem can me related to the localizated version (Italian) that I own? I mean that perhaps the program points to some italian content that isn't yet available on the server. Let me know.
Best Regards
Raimondo
Hi Raimondo,
Honestly, I'm not sure.
Although Adobe does try to localize content for all supported languages, there are many different components involved, which are managed by different groups, and each has their own plans, schedules, and limitations for getting content translated. It is certainly possible (and probable, I'd guess) that some of these items are not (or not yet) available in Italian. But others probably wouldn't need to be localized at all (links to twitter) so I'd guess that that isn't the issue.
But let me check with someone who is in a better position to know than I.
I assume you are running an Italian version of Photoshop CS5, yes? Mac or Windows?
Is there anything else that doesn't seem to be working correctly? Can you successfully access CS Live? Create a Review and upload content from within Photoshop? Access color themes from Kuler?
Thanks.
Hello David,
thank you for your answer.
Yes, I am running an Italian version of Photoshop CS5 for MAC. Everything else seems to work OK: I can access CS Live, create a Review and upload content from Photoshop and access color themes from Kuler.
Plase, let me know about the localization issue when you get more informations.
Best Regards
Raimondo
Hi Raimondo,
Well, I heard back from our Localization team, and they inform me that for the Italian version of Photoshop, the contents of that panel have not been localized, so what you are seeing (nothing listed there) is actually the expected (correct) behavior. This comes as news to me, but there are lots of different groups working on these things, and this is the first time this issue has come up (for me at least). So, first, I'm glad that you didn't start reinstalling things because that would not make it work any better. Second, my apologies for it taking a while to get the correct info from the right source.
In any case, the good news is that things appear to be working the way they are supposed to, so you don't need to do anything.
Thanks for your patience, and also for bringing this issue to my/our attention.
