Cannot un-bullet a line

I use lists a lot (I'm moving all my stuff from Ta-Da lists and Backpack to Buzzword documents).

Sometimes when I create lists inside Buzzword and more often when I past a bulleted list or a set of lines into a bulleted line (so they inherit the list format), I find that I cannot un-bullet a line from the middle of the pack. The list radio button is selected, but disabled.

Sometime (not all the time), I can use the New List radio button to "break" the format, and then un-bullet the line (which is now the first line of the new list).

I change formats and indentations a lot, so level 0 testing is not going to catch this. Perhaps a code-review with emphasis on left-over codes and positioning and pasting text that other systems think is bulleted would be productive.
