Calling on external files

Is there any way to call on an external file the same way Adobe Captivate

does?

I would like to have someone be able to click on a button and it open a Word Document, PDF or full size image etc.

You can do this by creating a Go To URL interaction and merely referencing the correct file. For example, you can link to a PDF by calling www.myserver.com/somefile.pdf.

Note that Catalyst cannot create links to local files the way you may be used to in traditional web programs, so merely calling somefile.pdf will not work; you need the complete URL, even if the file in question is on your own web site.

Thanks but i am wanting to create a stand-alone product to be distributed on Cds. At some point i will take it to the web when we get our new server. but for now the drafts of the projects i create need to be able to be run from a CD...

Unfortunately, Catalyst only supports http:// style URLs. You can find more details, along with some help on getting it to work if you want to code in Flash Builder, here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2374276#2374276
