Some strokes expand, others dont???

Hello all

 

I have some text chunks that I am trying to apply strokes to and then expand into objects.

 

It works most of the time but on some, when I select OBJECT > EXPAND, then select FILL and STROKE, nothing special seems to happen...

It retains its fill and stroke rather than converting the stroke to a fill that I can then pathfind together.

 

Anyone else seen this?

Anyone know why it might be?

 

Any help appreciated!
