The Blank Grey Screen

Mar 23, 2011 7:41 AM

If it wasn't so annoying, this would just about make a good title for a story. However, I have noticed (as I'm sure the Adobe team have) several people posting a complaint about the desktop application going no further than the blank grey screen after updating to the latest version.

Clearly there is a problem here. I've left comments in two other threads, have received no response and no assistance. I sent my database to the young chap who said, 'Send me your database,' in another thread, but he hasn't responded.

Am I living in dea d AIR?

I have deleted the program from my computer twice and reinstalled it. I still get the Blank Grey Screen.

Like others, I can access my work in the online environment, which is terrific. Except when I want to work on my project and there's no internet access dropping by. Then it's ... well, a bit of a bugger, really.

There's another problem I;ve noticed here too. After launching my desktop application, and getting a Blank Grey Screen, I close it. But if I go to reopen the program, it doesn't respond at all. It appears dead. But it's not. Oh, no. The process is still running, even after it's been closed, so this suggests to me that there's more than a little thing going on here. It's more like a whole affair.

Anyway, my machine is a WINDOWS PC, with that most dreadful of operating systems, the worst anachranistic piece of engineering invented since the automated belt tightner, VISTA.

So, if it's not too much trouble for you very smart Adobe chaps, would you please address this issue post haste, find a solution (preferably not too sticky) and get us some working virtual paper for our scripts on our desktops.

You never know, one of us might be inspired to write a movie about it.

Thanks

    Interesting read !

There is definitely some problem with the Desktop version of Story application and I see a lot of activity around this on the forum recently. I am pretty sure that the folks back at Adobe must be working on it. Saw some threads where it seems that they are connecting 1 on 1 and trying to understand the issue more closely. It clearly looks like a problem with some weird combination of settings and stuffs and not easily replicated for those who are not entangled in that  loop.

On the other hand, I should say that the Story forum is a very active one, amongst the rest in terms of the Adobe participation. This being a 'user to user' forum is expected to be more of a user driven forum, the fact that there are folks from the development team monitoring and responding is a good relief. I have started a separate thread asking folks to try a different workaround and come back and respond, you may want to look at that once.
