Hello - how do I record a video of Captivate itself? It doesn't appear as a 'window to record' (Record New Project > Appliction > ..).
Any help? Thanks in advance.
By the way, I am using version 5.
Hi - Can you simply open a second instance of Captivate and tell one window to record the other?
I've managed to get it to work, but I am only using Captivate 4 so there is a chance the functionality has changed.
In my own experience this will only work up to a certain point. That point? You cannot use Captivate to record Captivate recording the screen because it only allows a single recording instance to occur.

I have been creating a lot of Captivate SWF's using 2 instances of Captivate 5 or capturing CP5 with CP4. This is working fine, just needs some editing sometimes for the automatically generated Captions that on some level seem to have strange messages, which you will not have capturing CP5 with CP4. But the capturing process works fine. You can have a look at this video tutorial I published a long time ago (only one in English, mostly create in other languages). This work flow was not possible in Captivate 4, Rick is right:
Thanks guys, but unfortunately I don't have a license for Captivate 4.
I have tried using a different instance of Captivate 5 to record Captivate 5 but yes you can't record while you're recording.
From a developer standpoint, I really can't understand why one would need to open a different instance of Captivate in the first place to record itself on screen. It is not that the software interface is doing the recording!
The software interface may not be doing the recording, but the software underneath the interface certainly is.
Think of it as the software equivalent of patting your head and rubbing your stomach at the same time. Some can do it. Some can't.
I like to think of it as recording using a camcorder. Unless you use a mirror, you cannot use a camcorder to record the process of using a camcorder, no? You need a second camcorder to record the first one.

I have recorded captivate 5 using another instance of captivate 5. I generally record the second instance of captivate (which is to be recorded) after starting the recording on first instance. I then delete the slides from first instance if I need not include the launch of second instance in the final project. You might also like to try this way.
