I have a corrupted monitor profile in CS5. Everytime I open the application, I receive the error window. I have rerun the SpyderPro app and recalibrated but continue to receive the error. How do I delete the profile so this is no longer pickable as an option under Assign Profile? I cannot find this profile anywhere.
Thank you.
On modern Windows systems, the profiles are accessed through the Color Management dialog. Click Start, type color management into the search box, and click Color Management when it comes up.
FYI, on a typical Windows system the profile files are stored in this folder:
C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color
-Noel
1) Did you unhide hidden and system files?
2) Did you search in the Spyder installation folder?
3) search for *.icm and *.icc in your local HDDs. Your profile is not listed?
4) If 1-3 fails, rerun the calibration/profiling procedure and when prompted enter a unique name - say "Theymisunderestimatedme" - and do a file search for that word. You should find the location where Spyder stores your profiles.
I had the Spyder myself and don't recommend it. It produced wrong profiles for our monitors. We filed a bug report with Datacolor in Oct. 2008 which has been open ever since and never been solved. Out of curiosity (we had purchased calibrators from competitors by then) we visited them at a European photography trade show where - after a presentation - we asked them to look into the issue. They were not able to resolve it.
Christian, I created another profile and found it but the corrupted profile is still missing. I searched to icc and icm. This is the error. "The monitor profile "Samsung - Natural Color Pro 1.0 ICM" appears to be defective. Please rerun your monitor calibration software". I then can choose Ignore Profile or Use Anyway. I always Ignore Profile. When I go into the Assign Profile, it is still shown.
I did go into the ProfileChooser for Datacolor and the Samsung profile is not there. My hidden files are also shown. I think the profile is embedded somewhere in Photoshop, but I can't seem to find it.
Maybe the "Samsung - Natural Color Pro 1.0 ICM" file is already deleted physically from the HDD, but Windows (registry / control panel) and/or the app with the error are still pointing to it? In this case you need to select a different monitor profile in your OS. What OS are you on?

Press Ctrl+Shift+K in PS. Is your "Samsung - Natural Color Pro 1.0 ICM" selected somewhere in this settings window (in section "woking spaces")? It shouldn't be. Select a different working space.

What app? Photoshop or Spyder app?

As a side-issue: You know that assigning the monitor profile to an image is not standard procedure?
I believe the profile is deleted from the system. But everytime I log into Photoshop I get this pop up window. I just noticed the don't show this message again box and I'm checking that. I've spent hours trying to figure out why this corrupted profile is in the drop down menu.
Side Issue: yes I do know that. I'm not assigning the monitor profile to a document. I just see the profile in the Assign Profile menu.
Thank you for all your suggestions and help.
But everytime I log into Photoshop I get this pop up window.
Because you haven't deleted the profile -- the OS still saying that the profile for your display is that profile, and Photoshop sees that the profile is invalid.
If the profile is in the menu, then it is still installed.
First you have to go change the profile for your display, then you need to find where that profile is still installed and remove it.
If you are running XP then go to control panel/ display, then settings, advanced and under color mangement you should be able to see what ICC profile XP is using.
I had the same problem as you and after I created a new profile and set it as the default profile (as above) the profile error message in PS5 went away.

Be aware that a color profile name doesn't necessarily match its file name.
Maybe that's the reason why you don't find the file.
See:
So check what the file name is for the profile that is causing the error.
BTW, is it listed in the above "color settings" window?
I am using XP on a Dell laptop.
I went into the Display and the Plug & Play Monitor on Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family is selected.
Color Management: Current monitor is Plug & Play. There are no color profiles associated with the device. I did press Add and the corrupted file is not listed. Since I use the laptop with my office monitors (2) and then my home monitor as well as the laptop display, I hesitate to make one a default. I don't know much about this.
