Inserting/embedding YouTube Video

Apr 25, 2011 8:40 AM

Hi,

I'm runing Ct CS4 and according to the documentation, I can insert a video from the web into a page using 'Insert > video > From internet,' after which, "A video placeholder appears in your draft."

I am able to browse to the YT video I want to insert and click 'Ok' but then nothing happens; there is no placeholder and no video when I publish, and no error message, and trying to use the YT Share code results in an error about not being able to insert a directory.

What am I doing wrong? It is a permissions issues?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I believe you have to link to the actual video file rather than a page the video is located on.

    Hi,

For embedding Youtube video, you can do the following:

    • Copy the embed code for the video.
    • In Contribute, edit the web page where you want to embed the video.
    • Select Insert -> HTML Snippet menu item.
    • In the resulting dialog, paste the Youtube embed code.
    • Click OK.
    • Now a place holder will be placed for the video, and on publishing the web page, the video can be played by the people visiting your web page.

Note: HTML Snippet menu item will not be enabled by default, an administrator has to enable it for a particular role.

    Hope this helps.

    Yeah sorry.

Forgot about Insert HTML snippet. That should do the trick with a youtube video.

Hello. I'd like to embedd a video (from youtube) and was wondering how I go about enabling the snippet menu. Could you let me know how this is done? I'm the administrator and can't seem to figure this out.

    Many thanks-

    Jim

    Steps to enable HTML Snippet:

    1) Administer the site

    2) Select the Role and Click Edit Role Settings...

    3) Choose Editing

    4) Check the option, "Allow HTML Snippet Insertion..."
