Hi,
I've been trying to set up an instance of Flash Media Interactive Server on Amazon Web Services for an AVChat (avchat.net). I signed up for the service here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flashmediaserver/amazonwebservices/
I have some simple questions on getting it started --- namely: do I create the FMIS instance myself now that I've signed up, or do I need to go ahead and create it?
I see under the EC2 tab I can create an instance under 'Community AMIs' for adobe-flashmediaserver-useast/fms-4.0.1.8011-centos-5.5-ami-1.manifes t.xml
Is this what I want? I realize this is a bit of a noob question.
once installed what I'm trying to do is to add a folder for AVChat into /opt/macromedia/fms/applications/ ( http://avchat.net/support/documentation/#21 ). I am assuming that once I do have this instance running, I can move/modify files on the server instance.
thanks,
barry
Hi,
I don't think you need to create any new instances, once you log in to the Amazon web services, as you mentioned , navigate to the EC2 AMIs where you should be able to see the manifests for already available instances for your service. Select and Launch Instance and configure for your purposes.
Let me know if you need anything else.
Thank you !
Thanks for your help!
After registering, I never was presented with an instance of FMIS, so I did create one from the community AMIs area. Is this the same thing as the service that is outlined on this page?

The link to 'Documentation and getting started' is a broken link from this page. Otherwise the documentation I have found on adobe's website doesn't cover getting FMIS started on AWS, and otherwise clicking 'Subscribe Now' gets me signed up for AWS, but doesn't seem to give me a pre-setup version of FMS or FMIS.
I don't know if the documentation covers ssh-ing into the instance and setting up a folder/files on the instance (to get AVchat running). Can I modify anything on the amazon instance of FMIS?

Some more background on the signup process: I was given an activation code for FMIS upon signing up for AWS.
it stated:
An activation key may be required as a part of Adobe Flash Media Server on Amazon Web Services's registration process. If required, copy the activation key displayed to the right and enter it where Adobe Flash Media Server on Amazon Web Services specifies.
Once in the Amazon web services console, I don't know where to enter this, if it is required to get it started. It also says it expires later today (April 25th at 6:53pm). I don't know if I should, or shouldn't have put this in anywhere.
Where can I find the area to enter this key in, or find out if it is needed, or find the FMIS instance running?
I'm really thankful for any help,
Barry
Hi Barry,
Sorry the link was down when you last tried it. It worked for me so here's a sub link to the documentation for creating an account and setting up the server: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/flashmediaserver/amazonec2/WS6fc2df2b6d2ce 24359910e2812c396a83eb-7fff.html Hopefully this will work for you.
Once you have FMIS running, and is sounds like you already do, you'll need to log into your instance to add your FMS application. The default application directory on the AMI is /mnt/applications. FMS is installed at /opt/adobe/fms and you are free to configure it how you wish. Here's a link for the "working with applications" documentation: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/flashmediaserver/amazonec2/WS6fc2df2b6d2ce 2431afba23c12c3967d3ca-7fed.html
For ssh-ing to your instance, view the AWS documentation. Log into your AWS account and go to the EC2 Dashboard. Click Documentation under Related Links. Select the Getting Started Guide, then the chapter Connecting to you Linux/Unix Instance.

Hi Barry,
I'm not sure I fully understand your question. In your previous posts, you mentioned that you were able to launch an instance of the adobe-flashmediaserver-useast/fms-4.0.1.8011-centos-5.5-ami-1.manifes t.xml AMI. This is the FMIS AMI for AWS. There is also a copy of this AMI on the Asia Pacific region with manifest adobe-flashmediaserver-apsoutheast/fms-4.0.1.8011-centos-5.5-ami-1.ma nifest.xml. When you launch one of these AMIs, you choose one of 6 instance types supported by the AMI (outlined by the table in http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/883/cpsid_88372.html). Once your instance has started, you can connect to the instance via SSH to configure FMS and upload custom applications. Remember to open port 22 for SSH access in your instance's security group.
Here's a link to the "Getting Started" documentation which outlines how to launch an instance of FMS: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/flashmediaserver/amazon/WS6fc2df2b6d2ce243 59910e2812c396a83eb-7fff.html

Thanks Kevin,
I was able to get this going, with the correct link to the documentation, and I see that link now for getting started (and it's fixed on the Adobe Flash Media Server on Amazon page). That's really all I needed -- otherwise I was just a bit blind.. I was able to install the public key here in Mac OS X and SSH in to place the files I need on the Flash server. I'm successfully using it for a video conferencing web application (AVConference) and it's working well.
Thank you for helping -- hope something here in my stumbling though this and the help I've recieved has helped someone else, too.
Daniel,
The Flash Media Server AMIs are under the 'Community AMIs' after clicking 'launch Instance' while in the EC2 tab while in aws.amazon.com admin panel. Worked for me!

None of the above links work. I am trying to login to my FMS 4.5 server on my new Adobe AMI instance and it is not letting me. I have modified the fms.ini and users.xml file but now luck. Can someone please help me? Also is there a seperate license key I need to enter in the fms.ini file?
Cliff
Hi Cliff,
No there is no license/serial that you need to enter anywhere.
Please elaborate on what issues you are facing.
Meanwhile, all the documentation is here:
