I received a project from a client that they had started in Captivate 4. I only have Captivate 5, and notice that immediately upon opening their file, it converts the project into a .cptx file.
Since the client only has Captivate 4, I want to make sure they still have a workable version of the file when I return it to them. Thus, I'm wondering if it's possible that I can work within their .cp file in Captivate 5, without it turning into a Captivate 5 (.cptx) file.

Note that you will not be able to save edits made in version 5 and have the client still use Captivate 4. Once a project is upgraded, that's it. There is no going back as you can with Microsoft products such as Word, PowerPoint or Excel.
What you need to do is save a copy of the version 4 project as it is.

Thanks! I actually am already somewhat active in the community, but I have a work account and a personal account - and since I'm at home, I wanted to use my personal account to get the replies today
Anywho, I think you've answered my question, which is sad news, and honestly doesn't make much sense that it's made that way. I mean, I guess it does force people to upgrade in a sense..but still.
Basically, I will be able to save their copy just in case they need the original, but the whole purpose of me having the file was to edit it. If I am unable to edit it and return a working version (with the edits) back to them due to their lack of Captivate 5, I think we both just learned a valuable lesson!
