First time poster to forum, thank you for having me.
I hope to contribute something useful to your forums.
I do have a request for help, this is driving me batty...
I've got a nice new box with a 30GB SSD as my boot disk. Currently I have CS4 and CS5, so it doesn't matter which one I get working, but I want to install Adobe on a separate hard drive. I don't want one single piece of installation on my C Drive, but no matter how hard I try I can't get this to work.
I really hope one of you Photoshop gurus can help. I'm so desperate I'm thinking of using *gasp* something other than PS. If you can help, I'd sure appreciate it.
There are common files that will always be installed on the boot drive. No way around it.
You are looking for trouble down the road with a boot drive that small.
On my WIn 7 64 bit computer, the Windows folder is 17 gigs and the Adobe common folder is 28 gigs. I have CS5 Production Premium.

Impossible! As already mentioned, there will always be parts of the shared components on the %systemroot% drive. This can of course be mapped to otehr drives, but it's still a circular argument: If you were to map it to anotehr drive, you'd have to reinstall Windows and lose the benefit of the quick SSD boot. So no, nothing you can do. You simply picked the wrong strategy.
Good news, well for me at least. Although I did not succeed in keeping all of the installation files off from the C Drive...I did get most (75%) to install on my data drive. All it took was editing one of the XML files in the installation disk. Bing, Bam, Boom! Success!
Thanks to everyone who replied!
Most software can be installed to any hard drive. As I stated above, Adobe Suites installs a large amount of common files on the system drive. If your system drive is not big enough to hold these common files, you are out of luck.
what did you have to change. Ive been trying to figure out how to install on a non-boot drive. Everytime i install the majority wants to install onto the main drive, even if i tell it to go to the non-boot. please help
