Hello -
I'm thinking about upgrading my computer. These are my current specs:
CPU: Q6600 OC'd at 3.00Ghz
RAM: 8gb G.SKILL Ripjaws Series Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL AND 4gb G.SKILL F3-10666CL9-2GBNQ
Video Card: EVGA 01G-P3-1366-TR GeForce GTX 460 SE (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5
I'm thinking of ugrading to the i7-2600k and getting rid of my 4gb of ram and adding 8gb of the ripjaws.
Here are my questions:
1. Is it worth upgrading?
2. Is the i7-2600k the best for its cost in that price range?
3. What motherboard should I purchase to accompany this cpu?
4. Would this be good for editing h264 (DSLR footage) easily in After Effects and Premiere?
Any tips or suggestions are welcome
~Thanks
You have to get all new memory, since it is a different architecture than your current memory. Current is DDR2 and you need DDR3. So throw out all your memory or keep the current system as a backup system and start afresh.
1. Yes
2. Sometimes, depending on other needs.
3. Asus or Gigabyte are popular choices.
4. Look here: Adobe Forums: System requirements for CS5
First read some more, decide your budget and then come back with more questions.
Thanks for the quick response!
I believe I have DDR3 RAM though. There is a separate series for the sandy bridge archtecture but I can't invest in a completely new set of RAM. My main needs will revolve around video editing in Premiere and AE (75%), some photoshop(10%), and some gaming (15%). Aside from that, just using it as a day to day computer. As to the article I did take a look at it and if I understand correctly DSLR footage (Canon 60d) would fall under difficult. For that reason I'm aiming for an i7 core. I can't afford to change my hard drives at the moment - they are OK. My budget is $300-400 possibly $500 if it is an important inc. for both cpu and motherboard.
My main aim with this upgrade is to enable me for the next 2 or 3 years to begin editing without being gimped too badly, I may eventually upgrade my video card and HDD setup. I'm not looking for a pro video editing station, I simply can't afford it and I am not good enough to make use of it. I am in a bit of a rush to decide, I need to make a decision in the next few hours as I will be gifting my current PC to my brother and need to order the parts asap.
I'm sorry I think I'm missing something, the RAM itself is showing as DDR3 Here is the newegg link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231314 . Aside from RAM, any reccomendations on the optimal CPU + Mobo in that price range (300-500)?
Thanks!
