Catalog Weirdness?

Jun 8, 2011 6:40 PM

A client of mine is experiencing catalog problems that I can neither fix nor explain (Mac OS X 10.6, LR 3.4.1). For example:

  1. Various source folders show as containing zero images, when in fact they have hundreds.
  2. If he edits a RAW image in Photoshop, the saved PSD will end up in some newly created folder and not next to the original in the LR catalog.
  3. Some images can't be moved into supposedly empty folders because LR claims the image already exists in said folder.

If it's any help, the catalog and images live in my client's Dropbox folder. My LR catalogs and images also are in my Dropbox folder, but I have none of these problems!

Client has tried to optimize the catalog, but doing so never ends. A forced quit is the only way out.

He's even tried to delete LR and re-install, but the problems came back. Is there some way to delete all LR prefs and start over? I searched his ~Users/Library/Preferences folder, but couldn't find any LR prefs, the way you can for other Adobe apps.

I'm really perplexed by this behavior. Do any of these symptoms sound familiar to others out there? Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated.

Scott

He can try creating a fresh new catalog; testing to see if the problem still exists; if not importing the old catalog into the newly created one.

It sounds like you may have a corrupted hard drive. I'm not a MAC type so I can't give specific instructions, but on the PC there are several utilities that check the drive for logical errors. I'm sure the MAC has something similiar.
