Air 2.7 - iPad not supported ?!?

Jun 15, 2011 12:43 AM

Hi,

I was reading the mobile requirements in the Air 2.7 release notes.

It says the following devices are supported:

iOS devices

  • iPod touch 3rd or 4th generation, iPhone 3GS or 4, iPad 2
  • OS 4 or later

Am I reading this right? No iPad 1 support???

I can't believe this...

Please tell me this is a type from Adobe!!

Sure it is. I just tested it.

Though this would explain, why there is nearly no performance gain on iPad 1...

The release notes are available at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/906/cpsid_90612.html. The supported devices are iPodTouch 4th generation, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4, iPad which means both iPad 1 and iPad 2.

Could you mention the release notes link that you are checking?

You didn't misread, you quoted it correctly. So, yes, I think they could either remove the "2" and let people assume that "iPad" means any iPad, or they could specifically state "iPad and iPad 2".

    Hi,

Thanks for sending the link. We are in the process of updating the system requirements at http://www.adobe.com/products/air/systemreqs/. Please refer to the link that I mentioned in my previous post for AIR 2.7 requirements.

    Thanks,

    Sanika

The page you linked to doesn't list the 3rd gen iPod Touch, which ought to work ok. It's certainly included in the other requirements page.

This is a little off topic but did we ever get an explanation why Adobe dropped support for the iPhone 3G starting with 2.6 I know it was supported with the original packager and I am still using it for an app that I originally published to support the iPhone 3G.

Just curious seems like a huge chunk of the market to ignore.

I guess it was, because older devices ca't load iOS4.3 and Adobe wanted to feature that (which makes sense).

I have 4.3 running on my 3G at work right now. Apple still supports the 3G and they are nutorious for dropping support for their own devices.

I am guessing iOS 5 will probably be the official death of the 3G but for now its still very active.

My bad I have 4.2.1 on the 3G, well then it makes sense.

AIR 2.7 requires iOS 4 or later, which includes some versions that can run on an iPhone 3G. The reason the 3G is left out is because AIR 2.7 requires the Armv7 chip, it doesn't work with the Armv6 in the 3G.

Roger that, do you happen to know what portion of apple phones out there are 3g and for that matter the orignal iphone? It has to be near 40% of all iPhones.

    Maybe they meant "iPad too"
