Widget Browser kaput

Jun 14, 2011 4:42 PM

OK, I've looked around for answers and the ones I found don't address my situation.

I installed the Adobe Widget Browser and it doesn't work. That means the stan-alone application launches but there's no app window.

I cannot sign in, there's nothing but the application menus.

Dreamweaver keeps telling me it's not installed and sends me to the website to get it installed.

I updated AIR (to 2.7.0.19480), uninstalled, reinstalled AWB and nothing (installed from Adobe site and by downloading the installer file). Still no window.

Dreamweaver works, Extensions Manager works, Exchange RSS in browser works, I don't see any firewall issues, etc.

A ":Users:username:Library:Application Support:WidgetBrowser" is absent, let alone the configuration file.

What's supposed to happen? How does DW know where WB is installed? Why does the app launch and there's no window? Is there an xml or configuration file that I can edit to make things work?

Please don't ask me to uninstall/reinstall CS5. That's too Dilbert for me.

Thanks.

Adobe Creative Suite 5, Mac OS 10.6.7

    1. In the Widget Browser you got 2 windows, "Adobe Exchange" with all widgets and "My widgets" that is empty when you start.

    2. In "Adobe exchange" you choose the widget you want to download, it downloads automatic.

    3. Then in the bottom of that screen you choose "+ add to my widgets".

    4. Go back to Widget Browser and choose "My widgets" and the new widget should be there.

    5. In DW open a program, choose -Insert- -Widget- and a small window open where you can choose Widget and Preset.

    6. To make your own presets, go to Widget Browser, choose "My Widgets" and click on one of the widgets and there you can create your own presets.

I just learned all of thi yesterday evening and it works fine for me.

    Good luck!

    Sven

Could you try to launch the Adobe Help client (Under Applications/Adobe) & see if it works. It's also an AIR application.

If it also has the same problem, you may want to consult the following tech note: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/902/cpsid_90205.html

"The user interface / window does not appear when running an Adobe AIR application, the Adobe AIR installer, or the Adobe AIR uninstaller.

Check the locale settings to see if Latin American Spanish (es-419) is in the list.  Incorrect settings trigger an esoteric bug that can cause the behavior described in the Adobe AIR installer and uninstaller, and in some Adobe AIR applications."
