PSCS5 x64
Levels> Presets missing
1) where are these files supposed to be located?
1) what is the extension for the presets?
example: Curves presets are: .acv
I'll answer question number 1 first:
On a Windows 7 system, the Presets for various tools, e.g., Levels, are here:
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Presets\Levels
(for example, "C:\Users\NoelC\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Presets\Levels")
As for question number 1
the Levels presets are: *.alv
You can figure this stuff out for yourself by accessing the little icon just to the right of the Presets selector.

Thank you for the detailed post.
As the title mentions: Levels> Presets are missing. I did "access the little icon" That's also how to double check the curve presets (which are still in the correct location)
The files were there, now they are not. Where did they go? now I can do a global search for .alv.
next issue:
If they are not on the hard drive, How can they be re-installed without re-installing the entire PSCS5?
Ah, now I understand. Sorry I was a little dense.
The out-of-the-box presets that normally show up in the selector are not in the folder I mentioned. Apparently that list is created from several sources. The location I listed is where files YOU save go.
I'm presently searching for any of the out-of-the-box preset files. I'll let you know if/where I find them.
-Noel
Okay, I've located the out-of-the-box presets:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Presets\Levels>dir
Volume in drive C is C - NoelC3
Volume Serial Number is 00ED-C11E
Directory of C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Presets\Levels

The above would be the folder for the 32 bit Photoshop on a 64 bit Windows system.
This would be where you'd find the 32 bit files on a 32 bit system, or the 64 bit files on a 64 bit system:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Presets\Levels
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64 Bit)\Presets\Levels
-Noel
Well they are on the HD, but had been moved to a different location.
I just Copied them to the Roaming path:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64 Bit)\Presets\Levels
But they will not show up in the Levels> Presets drop down list.
For some reason the .alv files have to be manualy loaded each start of Photoshop. ![]()
Is there a way to get the default back?
YES!
Window> Window> Workspace> Reset
fixed it.
thanks!
