Cant select paths on photoshop cs5

I always work with paths to create my selections and cut images, and now that I have CS5 I cant seem to select the paths to cut my images.

I can only select it if its a single shape per path. So If I make a circle, its fine I can select it but If that circle has multiple circles inside I cant select all cilcles at once. It keeps saying no pixels were selceted. So the only way is to have every single shape on a different path and Im cutting a super complex helicopter! Its too much time.

 

Is there a new feature to paths I dont know about, or I'm I doing something wrong? I tried combining the paths but that doesnt seem to work either, when ai used the "subtract from shape" instead of doing that the path inside disapears.
