all of my photos are plain gray boxes

Jun 28, 2011 8:27 PM

hi gang,

i installed lightroom 3 today, and was eager to dive in, but when i imported some photos, they all show up as gray boxes with no image inside.

i've searched this problem, but the only answers i've found tell me to update my graphics card firmware and delete any monitor profiles.

i've updated the firmware and i've even reinstalled lightroom, but everything's still gray.

there are no "?" or "!" in the gray boxes.

i've tried upgrading to the latest version - same thing.

when i select the "web" button at the top right, i can see the photos, but not in other modes.

i'm running xp sp3 with a radeon 6500, 4gb ram.

any ideas?

You have a corrupt monitor profile. Delete it and then recalibrate your monitor. If you do not have a calibration device then set your monitor profile in the OS's calibration as sRGB, this will fix things temporary but you will require a calibration device to produce consistent colour.

Happened to me when I ran out of space on my hard drive and lightroom could not build the previews. So that might be something to check, too.
