Photoshop Options

Jul 5, 2011 8:36 AM

I upgraded my photoshop and now nothing useful shows up in my "Options" bar at the top. When I crop things it doesn't show width or height. When I make a new text box there are no font properties to set. It's extremely annoying and I have no idea how to get these useful options back into my options bar. Any suggestions?

Empty fields for the Crop Tool can be normal, and in fact the emptiness has a particular meaning - specifically, the tool will not be restricted to a particular aspect ratio nor will it resample when all the boxes are empty.

Regarding the second part of your question, what do you mean "there are no font properties to set"?  Are those boxes completely blank as well?  Can you click in the font box and choose a font?  I'm thinking perhaps you have a bad font if you cannot.

How is your preference set in Edit - Preferences - Type?  Specifically, do you have [ ] Font Preview Size checked?

What is the display resolution of your monitor?

Rt-click on the Desktop and let us know the setting, please.

    Good luck,

It's not that the crop or font boxes are empty. They are not there at all.

Ah, sounds like a basic display problem, then...

Good advice for this kind of problem is to update your display driver.  It could be that Photoshop's use of the OpenGL subsystem is triggering display driver bugs.

Visit the web site of the maker of your video card, and locate the download for the driver that matches your hardware and operating system.

Maybe the options bar is just not set to be shown.

Go to Window>Options and click on Options.

(toward the bottom of the menu)

I'm not surprised, I used to have that quirk in CS3 until I updated my display drivers. Always thought it was the strangest thing.
