Hi, I would like to create a dropdown menu, I have used the Spry one successfully but am concerned that since many people have java script turned off they will be annoyed when going to a site that uses Spry. Is this a legitimate concern? If it is, what other ways are there to create dropdowns that do not utilize java script? I have looked into creating dropdowns with forms but do not like the visual result. Thanks.
It's not as large a concern as it once was, though many large
institutions do still disable script on their networks. If it is a
concern for you, perhaps based on your target audience, our menu system
is programmed to work in pure CSS mode when script is disabled:

Who browses the web with Javascript disabled? Flash, yes. Javascript?
I've been aware of these concerns raised in forums over many years but never actually witnessed anyone using their browser this way.
I'm sure it happens somewhere but I've never actually witnessed it personally or professionally.
According to a test conducted by Yahoo last year Re: DropDown Menus, it's approximately
2% (U.S.). However, depending on your audience it could be higher. If
your audience is K-12 schools, the percentage could reach double-digits.
But it is something that a web developer needs to analyze and then
crunch the numbers as part of a project's due diligence.
Of course, not all web developers are diligent ![]()
