Elements 9 shuts down when saving "as" + thumbnails problems

1) Since last weekend, thumbnails won't load for photos that I have opened and closed, even those I have not modified. I get an hourglass.

2) Today, Elements started to crash when I was trying to save files that had been opened from a folder, not via the organizer.

 

I am running Lion. Any idea?
