Adobe is a company... do you mean Acrobat?
Since Acrobat is now at version 10 (Acrobat X) the telephone person is corrrect, you are out of luck trying to find version 8
If you do find a place that claims to have Acrobat 8 for download... don't... it is most likely a hacked pirate version that will load malware on your computer
