Recently, both unreal Engine and unity3d announce can support publishing to swf. if director can achieve it, how inspiring the will be! Why the Unreal and unity3d endeavor support flash, but director don’t? depend on publishing to swf, director’s development can continue do many project and webgame, and can still keep their value.

The answer is the same now as whenever anyone asked this in the past.  Director does stuff that Flash can not do.  Stuff that the swf format simplay can not handle.  Now that Molehill is there, swf has low level 3d capabilities (hence Unity and Unreal).  But that doesn't mean that swf can suddenly support xtras, lots of different media formats, and all the other stuff that is Director-specific.

In the past 10 years (since Intel & Macromedia released SW3D) I've seen dozens of 3D engines much better than SW3D.

Did they change the "Web 3D" leader?

    NO.

After 10 years, Director Shockwave still have 40-50% browser penetration and all its competitors (including Unity3D) have less than 10%.

    That tells everything.

    cheers
