Hi all,
i cant get my ram preview to playback most of the time.
it says "rendering frame 1 of 100" and nothing happens.
ocassionally after a long wait it does start loading into ram but most of the time it doesn't.
I don't have a lot of ram for 64 bit afx so I guess this may be something to do with it, but its quite a simple project and set to quarter quality.
just some photoshop layers with no layer styles. 1 layer is 3d and animated. large comp size, nearly 4000px wide
system details
intel i7 920 @ 2.67 ghz (dual quad i think)
6gb ram
win 7 professional
I've ordered 3 x 4gb memory (mboard only has 3 slots and 8gb sticks are very expensive)
I hope having 12gb will help.
anybody got any tips for optimizing how afx cs5 uses ram?
many thanks in advance

What exact version of After Effects? Have you installed the latest updates?
Does this happen with all compositions, or just the one that you mentioned that is 4000 pixels wide? That is a rather large composition. Tell us about the source footage items for the composition; how big they are, etc.
You're not using Render Multiple Frames Simultaneoulsy multiprocessing, are you? If so, turn it off. You don't have enough RAM for that.
