Does Pro X for Mac OSX.6 or .7 support "Create PDF From Scanner" option?

Sep 10, 2011 11:10 AM

I have googled over and over but have found no answer.

My workflow using Acrobat Pro 8 with Mac OSX 10.4 and epson Perfection 1660 Photo scanner was the following.

Using AP8Mac to create PDF from scanner was very easy.

Open ACP8Mac "Create PDF From Scanner"

Run through options and create.  Each page asked a question at the end of the processing wether to finish or add another sheet to be scanned.

I understand OSX.5 and higher dropped twain support.

My question is can I return to working this way using OSX 10.6,an updated scanner, and ACP Pro X for Mac or is this option gone for good?

Thanks

DM

You can create pdfs from a scanner using Acrobat X if you have an intel native twain scanner driver. I personally do not see the point, since Acrobat is not doing the scanning at anypoint, just the twain driver from the manufacturer. Why not use the driver software from the company and not insert a layer of software between you and the scanner's software. Most company's scanner software will scan to pdf these days, since pdf is a popular format.

    Acrobat X Pro does

    • optimize the scanned image
      • de-skewing
      • compression
    • recognize text via OCR, giving you searchable PDF
    • help with form field recognition, resulting in electronic fillable forms
    • create standard PDF, e.g. PDF/A for archiving
    • allows to secure the PDF, so they are tamper-proof

Please, compare against your scanner's software.
