stand alone video presentation

I am working on a standalone video presentation, will play directely from PC. So no worries about streaming or file size.

 

Right now i am using WMV9 with unconstrained bitrate, decoder on auto, avg bitrate maxed out at 10,000

 

I am still getting some compression artifacts on playback, even when using clean hi res tif files (no jpgs)

 

Any tips on getting the best quality from PP5.5 ?

    Try creating a lossless AVI file using the Lagarith or UT codecs.  Both are free and work fine with PP.  Both are lossless so will not degrade the image at all.

     

    The files will be larger, but you said that wasn't a concern.

    Uncompressed avi is getting me about 3GB/sec but it does look nice.

     

    So is there something in between uncompressed and something like WMV9?

     

    I can of course store the video at 3GB/sec but not sure if it is too much bandwith to sustain over a five minute video.

     

    What think?

    Yes.  Lagarith and UT.  (Use the YUV420 modes to save even more space.)

    Is this going to be on one computer, or will it be sent out to others?

     

    The only limitation with Lagarith, or UT, will be that the CODEC's will need to be installed on each computer, but they ARE free. With one computer, it's not an issue, as the installer to Encode, will also include the Decode too.

    The presentation is on one dedicated PC,

    Great, as that certainly makes the delivery much, much easier. Thanks for that clarification.

     

    With that scheme, you can use the best "lossless" CODEC, and only need to have it on that one, dedicated machine.

     

    Both Lagarith and UT get high marks. Some users like one vs the other, and that is probably based on the exact Source Footage, they are working with. As both are free, do not hesitate to try each with your Footage, and pick the one that you like best.

    Having big problem with Lagarith now.

     

    20 second test clips were fine but now the final clip at about 3 minutes stutters and pauses.

     

    File size is 5.5GB and bitrate reports 300k kbps

     

    Any ideas why the playback is not smooth. Server is brand new Dell Workstation 8 core brute.

    could be, disks are ordinary 7200 rpm SATA

     

    should be fast enough though for 300k kbps. I think?

    300k kbs equates to 300 Mbps. (k k = M). 300 Mbps = 37.5 MBps and that ought to be enough for normal 7200 SATA disks. It might help if you describe your system in more detail.

    i am using ZoomMax Player V8.

     

    Need to use it because it lets me span 6 displays and run video smooth, 30fps @ 1800 x 1600

    OK.

     

    Aas a test, try another player.  I recommend KM Player.  If it runs smooth here, you know the software is the issue.  If not, you know something else is wrong and you can trace it down.
