I have about a dozen master pages in a document I converted from Pagemaker. I need to make some trial and error changes to the Layout>Margins. I don't want to have to do repeated changes to the layout in each master page. I would rather setup a new layout master page, and make all the others children of it. Don't see any way to do this. When I select any existing master page on the Page Panel and go to the Page Panel menu, Master Options is greyed out.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
I replaced the prefs, by shutting down, renaming, bringing up without open of a file, shutting down, renaming those two files as backups, bringing up ID again.
Same results, same panels with fields greyed out. However, I think I'm on the track to solving it. This was a conversion from Pagemaker to ID. It created layers, which I haven't worked with in ID. I opened layers panel, found two layers, default, and master default. default was selected. I selected master default, looked at my selected master page panel menu again, and this time master options was not greyed out. Stopping till tomorrow.
I didn't reconvert, and as far as I can tell, resetting defaults made no difference, but fiddling with the Layers DID work, however, a little strangely. When I double click a master page spread on the Pages Panel, a single page selects, and when I go to the menu, master page options is greyed out. When I then go to the Layers Panel, where I see a default layer and a master default layer. the master default is selected. If I just momentarily select the default layer, and then go back and select the master default layer, when I return to the page panel master page, the full spread is now selected and I can use the master options choice in the menu. That lets me add a child to an existing master page, which answers my question
I discovered I don't even have to mess with the Layers Panel. The only requirement is that the entire master spread be selected, so I click on one master page, and shift click on the other page so the full spread is selected. At that point master options are available in the menu.
OK, so the upshot here is the complaint that selecting a single page of a multi-page master spread in the Pages panel does not give you the context or flyout menu options "Master Options for MASTERNAME."
I think the even easier workaround is to rightclick the master name, to the left of the icon (or, in your case, beneath), rather than the icon. Then it always works.
I would call this a cosmetic bug though.
