Coldfusion MX 7 Administrator

Tags: #64bit #datasource

I've installed CF MX7 onto my Win7 Ult machine, and reached a point where I'm lost.

I am in the datasources setup screen (Data & Services > Datasources > Microsoft Access), and I have gotten this prompt:

Unable to update the NT registry.

     Variable DRIVERPATH is undefined.

When I received the above message, I was adding a datasource called pd, a 2003 MS Access database. This is what I have:

(16-character limit)

I do not have any database system file, that I am aware of, which is for security.

I cannot go any further with adding pd to my listing.

Please help!

I'm pretty sure the underlying Access requirements are not shipped on 64-bit Windows versions (you have tagged this ticket as 64-bit, so presume you have done this for a reason).

Google "microsoft access 64-bit" for details; google "microsoft access 64-bit coldfusion" for any of a number of discussions on the CF side of things.

I think, basically, it's time to upgrade your DBs from a desktop DB to a server DB.

We're talking about the Developer Edition, Adam, which installed successfully on my home computer.  Also, I opened the Developer Edition's Administrator successfully, and the message was the following:

I don't think you get what I mean.  This is not a ColdFusion problem, it's that Access ain't supported on 64-bit Windows.  There are no 64-bit drivers for Access, so on a 64-bit Windows install, Access is not supported.

You can horse around trying to get a 32-bit driver and try to get it working, but that falls outwith the scope of these forums (it certainly falls outwith the scope of my knowledge on the topic, too ;-)

You might want to read this:

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/officeversion_other-of fice_other/64-bit-driver-for-dsn-for-ms-access-database/be8c0ad4-d8fd- 48e0-9026-b95d84135820

Or, like I said, do the googling.

But at the end of the day, this is an Access/Windows issue, not a CF issue.

This is an ODBC problem, and is pretty well-documented elsewhere. It is possible to get your Access datasources working with a 64-bit version of CF, but it's not as direct as it normally would be.

I've interpreted this, as having no entry in the System Database File textbox..because...I'm guessing...that this textbox cannot be blank. Now, I simply wanted to add pd.mdb to the datasources already in existence.  It is not visible in my original post, but I included pd.mdb in the first textbox "Database File".   My only question is...what is this System Database File textbox truly asking for.

Your interpretation is incorrect. No system database is required, if you don't have one.
