Spry graphic

Nov 28, 2011 7:54 AM

Got terrific help using the spry menus.

I used the downloaded graphics to open the drop down and close it.  When I tried to use my own graphic it looked bad locally (white background) so I tried to edit the code directly.

I then used the css edit panel which changed to code and now it's ok online.  Is this normal behavior? Is there a list of requirements for graphics used with Spry,  jpg, gif, transparent background etc?

I hope this isn't too confusing.

Any permitted web graphic format should work - so JPEG, GIF, or PNG should be good.

If using JPEG make sure the background color of the graphic matches the background color of the page if you want it to match. JPEG does not support alpha transparency (i.e. clear background).

GIF only supports a limited color table (256 colors max) but one of those colors can be transparent.

PNG has great alpha transparency support but this alpha transparency does not work with Internet Explorer 6 or less browsers. IE 7 has issues as well but it at least supports alpha transparency.

I always use PNG graphics whenever I add custom images to a Spry menu. For the reason stated above (256 colors vs being able to match my styles), PNG s just work better.
