My question is in regards to "Buttons" and "MSO's".
I have Multi-State Object (Popup) windows mastered using the technique giving by Bob Bringhust, http://blogs.adobe.com/indesigndocs/2010/12/hot-spot-button-workaround -for-indesign-dig-pubs.html using buttons and MSO's but my question is this. Can you make it so the buttons behind a MSO (Popup) are not active? Even in Bob's example above you can click on the each button while they are hidden behind the popup window. You can not see the buttons behind the popup but they are still active and this is my problem.
I have a nice 3 by 4 row of images, all buttons, they are linked to a MSO and when the MSO (Popup) is open you can still accidentally hit any of the hidden buttons behind the MSO. I have tried several things to solve this problem without any luck. It doesn't matter where the MSO and buttons are in a layer structure, top or bottom makes no difference. I have tried to make each layer in the MSO a button so as to supersede the 3 by 4 row of buttons behind but as far as I can tell buttons do not work inside of a MSO so that did not work. I tried making the "close" button as large as the MSO (Popup) but this just made all the images of the 3 by 4 not work. I guess you can not have a button over a button.
At this point I have run out of ideas so I have come here seeking knowledge. Any thoughts or solutions would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Ryan.
If I understand what you're trying to do, you can't do that with the current set of tools. Buttons appear on top of the slideshow regardless of their stack order, and you can't make a button inactive when you change states.
What you need is the ability to add buttons to slideshow states. If all goes according to plan -- and it's looking good so far -- the next release of tools in January will let you add buttons and perhaps other interactive overlays to slideshow states.
Yes that is correct and thank you for your reply. I thought that was the case but I thought I would check with the real experts. I look forward to the update.
Thank you again for your help.

I think it is an update Adobe needs to work on sooner than later because Quark 9's Digital tools already do this as well as pretty much everything else InDesign does and to be honest it's much easier. I have both programs and I have done work in both but I am loyal to Adobe so with nothing more than that I have stuck with InDesign.
Hate Quark if you must but in all seriousness Quarks 9's digital publishing features are about 100x easier. The difference could be compared to building in Flash to Edge, or coding straight HTML to using Dreamweaver as far as ease is concerned. Comparing the two feels more like Quark really took the time to build something from scratch where as Adobe's feels more like an after thought that they are still refining, which they are. Don't get me wrong thought I still love Adobe but they should learn from what Quark has done as well.

Heh. I'm not saying I don't believe you, but those comparisons are pretty severe....HTML coding vs Dreamweaver? Surely Quark's workflow and technique cannot be that far in advance of InDesign/DPS? (I find the entire workflow methodology in DPS to be pretty simple and straightforward....a bit hamfisted perhaps, but still easy to use.)
Just a quick comment; publishing to tablets is a revolution. Not only
traditional print to digital magazine, but all of interactive sales
presentations can now be delivered to tablets, a format that clients really
wants and that we know is a preferred solution.
Adobe has a solid position with all their amazing tools for media creation,
however better solutions with better widgets and easier production flow
towards tablets will attract new adapting users.
I believe that with partners like Woodwing and promises of new
functionality early next year, Adobe will strengthen DPS as preferred
solution. However Adobe needs to exceed competitors to keep their position.
We're working with projects and clients that wants their solutions today.

Bjørn Helge
