Download of Reader 8.3 and 10 works OK.  Cannot get installation of either past ~44% complete.  Tried multiple times with:

Firefox 6.0.1 and Internet Exp

all other programs turned off

My OS:  Windows XP Home with SP3

My computer: 2.17 gH,  448Mb RAM, 110G available.

Is Adobe trying to tell me they do not like my dial-up connection?  Any other ideas?  Help!  I need to read PDF files.

From where are you trying to download Reader? I would suggest trying here:

http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

Claudio,

I used:

adobe.com/downloads for v.10

and

get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions for v.8.

I'll try your link.

Thanks

Claudio,

OK - here is the result of your link:  it was different, but still no installation.

Reader 8.3.0 download went OK.  Installation/Setup choked at

Error 1901.

Error attempting to read from the source installation database:

C:\Windows\Installer\6c4e9f.msi

This resulted in:

"Setup was interrupted before Adobe Reader 8.3.0 could be completely installed.

Your system has lnot been modified.  To complete the installation at another time, please run setup again."

On checking my C: drive I found no Windows\Installer subdirectory.  Any thoughts?

Thanks also, Claudio it worked great.  Can you explain why the download timed out when using the Adobe link suggested.  I thought there was something not right with my system.

OK - for anyone following this saga: the problem has been cured.

Using Claudio's link (you IT guys have your mysterious ways - this link was not available from http://www.adobe.com/downloads page) and downloading v.10 (v.8 downloaded earlier did not work either from Claudio's link), Reader X installation was successful.

It's nice to have my PDF files back.

Thnaks,
