Dreamweaver CS5 won't open:  XML parsing fatal error:  config/workspace/dualscreen.xml

Tags: #cs5 #dreamweaver #crash #screen #xml #dual

Howdy.  I just got this error and I'm hoping there is a quick fix for it.  I can't open Dreamweaver - it fails to initialize.  I get an XML parsing fatal error:

Invalid document structure, line 1:  <file path> Dual Screen.xml

Has anyone encountered this error before?

Please advise - this is extremely urgent.

Thanks for taking a look,

Best,

Ike

Haven't experienced that but can you locate that file on your system and move it to a different location? After that, restart Dreamweaver and Dreamweaver should recreate that file and hopefully everything will work. Basically something's corrupt in that file and Dreamweaver needs to recreate a "correct" version of it - I think. Anyway, test that out and see if it resolves your issue. If not, post back and we'll run through other troubleshooting tricks...

What OS are you using? If on a Mac, go into your user library (looks like /Users/username/Library/Application Support/Adobe) and remove the Dreamweaver CS5 folder (drag to desktop or whatever). Relaunch Dreamweaver and see if that fixes it.

    fresh install. That worked.

The only problem is it did it again today. I think it has something to do

with using files you have downloaded from the internet. It was from our

secure server, but it let edit the html file from the first open since the

clean install, then I tried again and I got the same error. Come on Adobe.

    Thanks though.

Just a thought - Is it a file permission issue? Double check the file permissions - you may need to update them to allow you to edit it.
