Flash Player continually freezes and crashes my computer

I am posting a new discussion page at the request of staff.

The details posted are at the request of staff.

This problem started immediately after I updated my flash player in October and it extends through multiple updates of Adobe Flash Player.

Opening certain web pages that have flash applications on them completely freezes the browser and then the computer within a second.  Within 30 seconds, the entire computer physically crashes with a very brief blue error screen before the computer shuts itself off.  Opening two web pages that use Adobe Flash Player is also a near-guarantee to crash the computer.  Note that this includes all advertisements that use Flash Player, which means that opening any two web pages at once mostly guarantees that Flash Player crashes the computer.

I have diligently updated everything to fix this problem that I can find, and nothing helped.  Drivers, browsers, plug-ins, applications, everything.  None of the posted solutions I have found on the discussion forums have been beneficial or relevant.

There is no error report or number to send or post because the crashing causes a total freeze and computer death.  I can't change the hardware acceleration settings because flash player will not let me try to change those settings without crashing.

I really hope there are some since my job on a web site depends on flash's functionality and I currently spend over 2 hours a day rebooting my computer due to Flash Player's crashes.

Could you try reverting back to Flash Player 10.3 and see if the crashes still occur?

How do I do a clean install of Flash Player?

Where can I find direct downloads of Flash Player 10.3 for Windows or Macintosh?

I removed everything related and did some stress testing to see if the problem would still occur (running 5 different flash-player-using browsers simultaneously while opening, closing, pausing, and resizing rapidly).

Using version 10.3 does not seem cause the freezing or crashing problems.

Any further recommendations or solutions on how to solve the problems?

Update to message from yesterday, it still crashes though only 10% of the time it did before.  So the problem is greatly reduced by version 10.3.

This happened to me a few days ago.  I had to update to the latest version of Flash, and now things are either flashing, just showing shapes/colors, or freezing.  I'm on an Apple.  Any suggestions?  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but it hasn't helped.

I'm not sure if the problem I noticed is same to yours but my Flash player also makes my system frozen.,

I use the both, Windows 7 x64 and Mac OS X 10.7 and the version of the Flash is the latest as of today.

In my case it happened on Mac. As far as I remember it didn't cause crash or freeze of the system on Windows

Here is a photo showing how it looks like when it causes the problem. Some small group of stripes ( repeated on a screen ) and making tick sounds continuously ( I believe whatever audio data in a buffer is repeated ).

Since you're blue screening, I suspect you're running into a NVidia driver issue.  Can you try disabling hardware acceleration in Flash Player and see if that helps reduce the crashing further?  If it does, then try updating again to FP 11 (again, keeping hardware acceleration off) and see if you crash.

How do I disable or enable hardware acceleration?

(sorry for the delay, I was away for a bit)

For me the "settings" option is greyed out and non-selectable. I've tried this so many different ways but I have never been able to select the settings in order to see or change the hardware acceleration settings.  It is greyed out on every flash-related thing I can think of to click on.

(note to WullyR - I scan for malware daily)

I have same problem, in spades.

Browser does not matter (IE, Google, Firefox)

Application does not make a difference (Netflix, Youtube, others)

My primary use is Flash Chrome 11.2.202.235, Windows 7 64

Video card is ATI, I have used a pirated driver and "both" of ATI's latest drivers.  Makes no difference,

I tried everything I could find on this problem, like disabling hardware acceleration and even put in new memory cards.

I monitored for over heating.  None.

I have run Hardware and software tests.   No errors found.

I searching the Internet there seeems to be thousands of these reports.  Machine type makes no difference, Op system no difference, Video cards no difference.  This sure seems like an Adobe Flash problem.  Adobe really needs to help us out here.

My BSOD says:

MACHINE CHECK EXCEPTION  0x0000009c

Check new hardware.

Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.

F8 for date mode.

Same problem. - videos start then freeze.

Uninstalling latest Flash Player upgrade and reverting to Flash Player v 11.2.202.235 fixes it.

I was having almost exactly the same problem on XP sp3 (except no blue screen) for weeks.

Firefox would freeze/crash (reporting a problem with flash) or my pc would restart after a random amount of time on youtube.

After trolling for hours on forums trying everything i read (update drivers, disable hardware accelerator ect), somebody said try scanning for viruses.

I really didn'y expect that to be the problem as Avast antivirus was always running on my comp but thought i might aswell try, so i installed malwarebytes and done a full scan.

My pc was loaded with malware and after removing it all and a quick restart i haven't had the problem since.

Its worth an hour of your time trying it if you're still having this problem.
