I have recentley pruchased and installed adobe premier elements 10. Anyway when the installation was complete I restarted my computer and then tried out the software. I imported some videos into premier elemnts 10 and then dragged them to the timeline. I then played then tried to play the video but just got audio sound but no video playing in the box above the timeline. Does anyone know what the probem might be?
What model of camcorder is your video coming from and what format is it?
When you started your Premiere Elements project, which project settings did you select? If youv'e selected the proper settings, you will NOT see red lines above the clips as you add them to the timeline. Is that the case in your project?
Have you ensured you have the latest version of Quicktime, per the program's requirements?

I have a lumix tz65 and the format is QuickTimeMovie. I haveconverted a the video into WMV format but still get the same problem.
The settings I started with was PAL DV Widescreen 48kHz.
The Verion of my Quicktime player is 7.6.9. I do get red lines.

Unfortunately non-DSLR still cameras shoot in MJPEG-MOV, a format that's difficult for a number of programs to edit, particularly Premiere Elements. Converting it to WMV only takes you farther from a solution.
The ideal program for converting this type of video to an editable format (like DV-AVI) is Quicktime Pro, which costs $29 from Apple.com and is a tremendous value.
You may be able to convert the file with Super, which is free, if you follow the instructions in this FAQ. But you're not likely to be able to edit it without converting it.
BTW, make sure that any video you do shoot with the camera is 640x480. This is the best format for editing in a standard def video project.

There's a DV 480p setting?
I'm not sure what's up. But if your footage matches your project settings for DV, you should never get red lines above the clips on your timeline until you add effects or transitions to them.
Sorry. If your file was converted in Super using the steps in the link and it still doesn't work, I'm not sure what else to do. Maybe someone else will have an idea.
As I said above, Quicktime Pro will most certainly work, but I can understand you're not wanting to spend $29 to find out.
I have tried different video converting software other than Quick Time Pro and just have not got anywhere. I have converted the video on movie maker and its still didn't work on premier elements. A few screenshots will be on the next reply.
Screen shots are very helpful. Your problem does not seem to be the file format or your project set-up. And I assume you have the latest version of Quicktime, per the program's requirements.
This solution is for version 9 but is worth a try.
Going to the ATI or nVidia site and updating your display drivers alone often fixes these problems, by the way!
Then you don't have a graphics card at all. You have in Intel graphics accelerator built into your motherboard.
So the reason you may see a moment of black is because your card and processor aren't able to keep up. (How fast is your processor?)
You can try downloading the update from Intel, but it may not make much difference.
I just don't know, Alex. Sorry. There's no reason this should be happening.
As I said, you can try downloading the Graphics Media Accelerator Driver from this site. It may help.
But beyond that, I'm not sure what to tell you except to uninstall and reinstall the program. Sorry.
This screen dump shows you are exporting in an NTSC format. But in response 9 you said you were using a PAL preset. This is likely the cause of your red lines. You need both to be PAL (720x576) or both to be NTSC (720x480).

ok, my graphics card seems to be updated.
When I opened my software there were 5 different discs, i installed it with disc 1 as i am on windows vista home premiun 32 bit, should I have used a different disc?
Also, a few months ago before premier elements 10 was released, I downloaded the trial version of premier elements 9 to see what premier was like and it seemed to be working absolutley fine. Is there any difference between 9 and 10?
I have unistalled the programme and installed it again and it still doesn't work.
I have tried out the trial version software on my dads computer and it works fine on there.
Once again I have made sure I am using the correct format for the preset. Also I tried a JPEG image and it was once again a black image (good to know its not my videos)
I think its something to do with the graphics but I have installed the lastest version of QuickTime. Other than that im not sure what the problem is.
It is most likely an issue with your installed graphics driver.
I do not recall if you listed your graphics card/Display Adapter, or the installed video driver, but would be where I would start looking.
[Edit] Found it - Intel.
Do you have a desktop, or laptop? If you have a desktop, then I would look into bypassing the integrated Intel graphics chip, and adding either an nVidia, or ATI/AMD graphics card (the power is not really something to worry about, but I would go with a recent card, for best driver support), and install the very latest driver from the mfgr's. I was afraid of that. Other than acquiring a new video driver from Intel, or the computer mfgr., I do not know of any way to get it updated to run PrE.
Sorry for the bad news, but that total lack of driver support, is why I recommend against trying to use an Intel graphics chip for editing Video, or even Still Images with a program, like Photoshop, or PSElements.
What brand of computer do you have?
According to the Intel driver utility, you have a custom driver, so you need to go to your computer mfgr. (Dell, HP, Toshiba, etc.) and see if they have issued an updated, custom driver.
