Copy Merged

'Copy merged' in 'Edit' is permanently greyed out. I'm using CS3 with Windows 7. Any suggestions?

    Make a selection in a document with more than one layer.  That's the only time it makes sense.  It's merging the layer information so that what you see on the screen is what you copy, instead of just copying the stuff on the currently selected layer.
