Hi all,
I have just purchased a Quadro 4000 Mac for the following system:
Model Name: Mac Pro
Model Identifier: MacPro3,1
Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
Number of Processors: 2
Total Number of Cores: 8
L2 Cache (per Processor): 12 MB
Memory: 16 GB
Bus Speed: 1.6 GHz
System Version: Mac OS X 10.7.2 (11C74)
Have just done a clean install of Lion and the latest CUDA driver (see screen shot) but the card is not being recognised properly. System profiler returns the following information on the Video Card and nothing else:
Type: GPU
Bus: PCIe
Slot: Slot-2
PCIe Lane Width: x1
Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de)
Device ID: 0x06dd
Revision ID: 0x00a3
The card itself has a green light powering up okay and judging by the above information is being recognised in PCI slot yet there is no signal coming out of the card whatsoever.
Is this a fault with the card or a driver issue?
Any help will be much appreciated.
Stephen
Could you elaborate what you mean by "yet there is no signal coming out of the card whatsoever."
I have exactly the same computer and card. The way I know it is functioning is, when in Premiere 5.5 ...
1. I go to Project / Settings/ General
2. Then I see the General Panel with the Renderer Dropdown
3. If I have the option to select the Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (the card) then the card is working. If you only have the option to select Software Only (below) then your card is not working. Good luck.
would it be helpfull for you : http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=215562
Thanks guys for your input,
I have followed the instructions from Simweb's Lion install and also rolled back to 10.6.8 and no joy.
Also tried the card in both of the x16 PCI slots using Screen Sharing to access the Mac Pro. Even tried the second power connection on the motherboard as well.
Reached the end of the line in terms of trouble shooting so I'm certain now that the card was DOA so will be sending it back today for a replacement.
With regards to Lion lasvideo it seems that the drivers need to be installed as a Root user which is what Simweb's instructions are all about:

Still I'd wait if I were you till this mess is sorted out before attempting an upgrade.

No worries lasvideo,
Been toying with the idea movig to a PC myself, Apple just seems to be going nowhere for pro users now.
Sad state of affairs but to be honest I think we'll all admit that that were are Adobe software users first and not Mac or PC.
So it doesn't matter what machine you use, just so long as it works! ![]()

Just to let you know my first quadro 4000 for mac was DOA and I purchased it in middle of December 2011. Same...no screen at startup. Must have been a bad batch that went out. I since exchanged for another under the warranty at it powered up fine. Using 10.6.8 and not looking to add lion anytime soon. So if anyone has a problem. It is most likely a bad card from the get go and return it and get another.
