I cannot print reliably from Adobe Reader. There is some odd interaction between Reader's print dialog box and the OSX print dialog box.
If I go to the "printer" tab in Reader's dialog, to set the printer up, then go back to Reader and hit "print" I get a message saying that I have not selected a page range - no matter which way I select the page range.
If I avoid touching the "printer" button in the dialog box, then I can print - BUT the document will not print using the printer features such as double-sided printing, even when the OSX printer settings are selected for it.
This problem does NOT occur with Acrobat Pro 9.4.6, which uses the OSX print dialog box instead of using an Adobe-specific one.
The problem also does NOT occur when using Mac OSX 6.
The problem appears to be specific to Reader 10.1.1 and OSX 7.
Reader X 'evaporates' when trying to print a PDF document or access preferences.

1) Are you using Acrobat or Reader?
2) What is the version of Acrobat or Reader you are using? The latest version is 10.1.1 and I would request you to keep the application up-to-date. You may do so by going to Help-->Check for updates. Kindly report back if the issue is fixed or not after the update.
3) Do you see the issue occuring with specific pdf documents or all pdfs? Could you share your pdf documents at atulagar@adobe.com
4) what is the make of the printer? what is the make of the driver?
5) What is the exact nature of the issue? print does not come? or Do you see any error dialog while printing? or anything else?

An update to post #41.
A clarification that I should of included in my original post is that all problemmatic behaviour reported in post #41 is seen when running as an XP LUA.
An (accidential) further investigation confirms that Reader 10.1.1 with Protected-mode enabled seems to work without problems when logged on as the XP Administrator. Similarly my Windows 7 SUA does not encounter problems.
An addition:
Whilst accessing a bunch of utility bills via IE8, the Reader add-on stopped loading for reasons unknown (IE would open a document viewing window, download the file but window remained blank and no Reader loaded). After some playing around (copy-and-pasting URLs and using Chrome) I got Reader running outside of IE (displaying the bill) and discovered that "Enable Protected Mode at Startup" had been rechecked. Unchecking this etc. re-enabled correct operation of the Reader plug-on with IE8.
Previously (particularly with Reader 9.n) I had regarded this as a problem with IE and not Reader (there are known problems with IE caching of encrypted pages).
To prevent this from happening again, I have (on my only system running Reader X) disabled the use of protected mode for all users in the registry by using:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\10.0\FeatureLockDown]
"bProtectedMode"=dword:00000000

when I try to print, I "adobe reader has stopped working" a problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is availabel.
I've been having the same issues. Downloaded AdobeX Reader on 1/12/12 and installed. Aftwards nothing would print. Old versions of Reader have worked just great.
After searching the internet for about 30 minutes I happened upon this post. I did what mvbaums15 did. Under Edit/Preferences/General I unchecked "Enable Protected Mode at startup".
Now all PDFs print just fine. Thanks Adobe. Fix your stupid program!

I too am having printing issues, I followed the advice to print as an image which worked.
We use Reader X versin 10.1.3
This issue always happens when I download PDF's from my bank but also noticed it has affected other PDF files.
The printer is a HP Laserjet 1018 -up to date HP drivers,
At first it shows that it has printed the document but when nothing prints I look to my printer status which shows 0 documents pending. Then when I try to print again I get error messages which tell me to install a printer, when I check the status of my printer it says the printer spooler is not working. When I changed to print as an image the printer worked fine but last month before the lasted upgrade, the printer prints pages 1-3 of a 12 page document over and over and over and I could not stop it. It had shut down my printer from working on this computer at all! So I think we are one step ahead.
We have the same problem but have further narrowed it down.
This happens to us when the PDF is being printed directly from a gmail attachement if the computer has Acrobat X on it.
If the PDF is downloaded and then printed from the local machine it works fine, if they have an older version of Acrobat it works fine.
Some time after Atul Agarwal attempted to help me in a private phone conversation, I found the "fix" link in this discussion. It had been posted AFTER our help session, yet no one notified me that such a "fix" was available. I applied the "fix" a few months ago now and it seemed to solve all of my printing problems with Reader X regarding PDF files that 1) would not stay loaded when trying to print them, 2) would not print, 3) would not load at all. I had been assured that the issue was a corrupted installation. So I ask, "Why did the "fix" solve the problem when any number of reinstalls did not?" It would have been helpful to me if Atul had recalled our help session and notified me of the "fix" being available. It would also be swell if Adobe would finally acknowledge that there indeed was a problem. Otherwise, why did there have to be a "fix"?
