I have been having trouble with Shockwave downloads on three different machines running three different versions of Windows. In every case older programs stopped working when I updated to 11. In XP error boxes started appearing that said Shockwave was not installed and messages that Shockwave was trying to download Xtras. In Win7, it just started trying to re-download Shockwave without any notice. Obviously something was missing.
Looking into this I find that Shockwave downloads are now supposed to be available in either a standard "Slim" version with a lot old things left out or a "Full" version that has all the old "Xtras" included.
The new standard link that Adobe sends you to get Shockwave is http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/ . There your only choice is to download a "Slim" 6.32 MB version.
You are supposed to be able to download a "Full" version from the http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/ page.
When you go there you find two links:
HOWEVER, when executed, BOTH links take you http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/ !!!! This is the standard link that downloads the Slim version!!!
No wonder many old programs are screwed up by the new version.
Where can I get the Full version?
Never mind, I found a link: http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/shockwave/default/english/win95nt /latest/Shockwave_Installer_Full.exe.
However, it doesn't include the Xtras I need either.
From the http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/ page, click the Different Operating System or Browser? link. From there you can select a Slim or Full installer for your OS (windows or Mac) and browser type (IE or Other). Bear in mind it is still not a standalone file that can be saved to disk, but at least a full install for those who prefer one.
HTH !
Here's a link which gives you access to download a standalone file:

@Fuzilla - My pleasure, glad I could help.
With a big website like adobe.com, a lot of pages are difficult to find, there are broken links and some are just dated. The page I posted is titled the 'Adobe - Shockwave Player Distribution Downloads' and links to current SW players but was written during the Macromedia days as a page for distributing the player. So, is not easy to find.
Even this forum has a dated name - Macromedia Shockwave Player - when the it has been clearly been renamed and rebranded as the Adobe Shockwave Player. http://www.adobe.com/products/shockwaveplayer/
Sometimes, it's easier to find Adobe stuff by searching outside of the adobe.com site. In another post, the question was asked about archives of the Shockwave Player. Looking around, I came across:

I just trie to downloaded the full version via your way and I received an error message:
c:\windows\system32\adobe\director\SWDNLD.EXE
UNABLE TO WRITE??
Unable to continue with the download
Do you know how to fix this issue??
That's Win XP 32bit.
Do the following:
- get the UNinstaller from here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/#sp
- uninstall and reboot
- get the FULL installer from the same webpage and finish the job.
