Lighten up. Your comment about $199 would scare other users to think that they have to pay that just to run GL. You can run GL in VMware Player for free. There is no concern about "resource heavy applications that take RAM and network paths seriously". GoLive runs fine in VMware Player.

Please do not make ipso facto statements with your own limited skill set.
Inndesign wrote:

Eh... You never said that.
The difference you draw between Workstation and Player does not apply to a GoLive user. If you need the level of resources offered by Workstation to run GoLive, you must be using GoLive incorrectly. GoLive was not designed for, nor requires, that much RAM. That is nice that you think you have sufficient experience. I'm just pointing out that you apparently have no experience with Player and have no need to scare people into paying $199 to keep running GoLive. Seriously, lighten up.

Are you able to recognize the silliness of criticizing me for an ipso facto statement when you foolishly believe that Workstation is really the only option? You haven't even bothered to discuss VirtualBox.
Oy! We're here to discuss possibilities; not to scare people into wasting money on unnecessary software.
Hi,
I'm gald to see this current golive forum. I'm one of those who has stranded sites. I struggled with DW to get them down. But working with DW is so tedious that I just don't maintain my vintage sites anymore. And I like the old look before everything became the same on the web.
I'm writing to ask what "workstation" might be the best for someone who plans to use the most stable golive version on a mac. I plan to assemble a vintage machine and software. Can a old G4 on Tiger run golive 5? I forget what the last working set up was. I'm looking for the formula for the perfect legacy system set up.
Any leads? I thank you in advance.

I'm a Designer, I'm a Web Developper and I'm an Art Director. I still use Golive all the time and for all the different needs in web development. On my Mac (OS X 10.8.) Dreamweaver is installed but never used... Never.
Anyone who has ever had anything to do with user interface design would understand why - after using the two softwares for a while.
This is not a "Golive is good for designers" issue. A good user interface is better for everyone. For designers and developpers... everyone.
LOL! If I had children, I might, too... ;-)
Seriously GL8 is still working fine on Snow Leopard, but i sure wish I could figure a way to port it to Lion. Will probably keep an SL machine whenever I upgrade to another machine.
GL is even so much better with CSS
If only I could find a copy of GL9, despite its problems. Would do me just fine.
I've given Dreamweaver more than a quick look. I've used it every day, all day since CS3 "with great success", and STILL I feel that in many interface respects, it's a step backward from GoLive. It was so much easier to navigate site assets, drag and drop from the Finder, install actions and the like. Dreamweaver is powerful, and of course more stable, but lacks the intuitiveness of interface that GoLive had. I always had the sense that the GoLive Team understood people who design things visually. Dreamweaver works, but it's clunkier and less intuitive. It certainly has its benefits, but I find myself going back to GoLive once in a while. I would have liked to see a better merging of the two applications. Stability from Dreamweaver, interface and tools from GoLive.
Being a very resourceful person, I found someone who specializes in Adoobe and Microsoft products to sell me a serial number for GoLive 9. It works on my installed version with Snow Leopard, now I just have to figure out how to install GoLive 9 on my Mountain Lion Mac. Anyone have any clues? It keeps saying that Licensing Has Stopped (yadda, yadda, yadda). I tried the Adobe Licensing Update tool but that didn't work. There has to be a way to install it on Mountain Lion.
If anyone is interested, in purchasing a number from him, send me a PM.
Thorzdad,
I just bought a new MBP and it had Mountain Lion on it already. When GoLive CS2 would not work, I uninstalled it.
I am trying to install GL9 and keep getting the licensing error. Trying to find a way around it, because I have heard others say that GL9 works well on ML.
I'll let you know if I am successful or I will have wasted some good money ![]()
Ok, so very good news. After much research and many trial and error processes, I was able to get GL9 installed and it runs great so far. Opened up an older version site and it converted it perfectly. I have heard reports of crashes, so if I experience any of those, I'll make sure to let you guys know.
So, to be perfectly clear. I am officially running GoLive 9 on OS X 10.8.2 on my MacBook Pro.
Cheers,
Mike
Me too. I would gladly pay. I have been using GL CS2 V8 since the begining and still do. Problem I have now is it is time to buy a new laptop and I cannot find a copy of GL to install. I have a legal copy but bought from Adobe online and never got a CD. daaah... I absolutely HATE DW. It does not even come close to being as quick and functional as GL.
Hi guys, I came across this free WYSIWYG editor http://bluegriffon.org and so far it is very fun!
I've tried Blue Griffon and I wasn't too keen on it.
I've been loving using GoLive 9 on the MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion.
However, I am going to say something a bit premature (and with some hesitation): I just got CS6 and there is a new feature in Dreamweaver that looks very cool. Whether it produces or not is another story. But they have a mode that will allow you to set up a responsive technology layout. This is very helpful to me because I have been working with this technology and it's extremely useful. Now, I don't have much faith in Dreamweaver, but if this works the way they show it to work, then it should be a very cool tool.
I'm adding this here, because I figured it was the only spot it would be seen. Forgive me in advance.
I'm running 10.6.8, and I have CS2 GoLive. I had no issues with it in the past with this configuration. Last week I needed to replace the logic board on my system, and when I opened GoLive, it said I needed to activate again. Internet activation didn't work, telephone activation said that my activation number wasn't valid, though I tried a dozen times.
Through phone support, I was given a link: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/entitlement/index.cfm?e=cs2_downloads to download another version of GoLive. But this says it only supports OS 10.2.8 - 10.3.8.
When I try to open, I get a message that says "The license configuration data for Adobe Creative Suite is no longer usable.
Any ideas? Would love to have this back and running.
I had a similar problem. Number of sites created in GL. Computer crashed for good and I had no way of make changes to the GL sites. Someone on this thread suggested I try a program called BlueGriffon... It is freeware. Simple little program but with lots of punch. I love it...works like a hot damn. I will keep using it until the bring back Go Live.

No one has any ideas about where to get an authorization code? GoLive loads, I just can't get it activated without the Auth Code. Sigh. I just want to make some edits to some legacy sites.

Hope this helps

I have Mountain Lion -- OS 10.8. I downloaded the file, but it won't install. Every time I try, it says an error occurred and the installation failed. I do have Snow Leopard on another computer with GoLive v. 7.2 running on it just fine. But it looks like it won't run under Lion or Mountain Lion. ![]()
The other computer is also an intel Mac, but an older one. It won't run Mountain Lion.
