Flash freeze after hibernate Windows 7

My flash in firefox always freeze/crash after I hibernate my computer. I noticed this problem on my 3 computers I have, and it happens everytime I hibernate. Here is the procedure, I watch a youtube clip, hibernate your computer but DO NOT close firefox. After awke from hibernate, I tried start watching another youtube video. And just within 15 seconds, you will notice the whole firefox freezed. Currently, the only solution is to manually kill plugin-container.exe from your task manager. I am pretty sure the problem is flash not firefox, because after awake from hibernate, if I only browser pages without flash, it will not freeze. Firefox only freeze until I start watching youtube, or go on any site contains flash. This problem has been there for many years, is Adobe even realized the problem? Any solution?

 

All my setups are the newest:

Windows 7 64-bit, full upgraded as of today

Firefox 10.0 (problem happened on 9.0 also)

Flash 11.1.102.55

    Hi cpthk,

    Thanks for the report.  I just tried this out on two different desktop Windows 7 64 bit systems (same version of Firefox and Flash Player) but couldn't reproduce the problem.  I tried both hybrid sleep and hibernation, but in all tests YouTube videos (along with other flash videos) continued to work in Firefox after bringing the computer back online.

     

    You mention that this occurs with all three of your computers.  Are there any hardware similarities between them?  I'd like to get additional information from you, would you mind taking a look at the following FAQ which details what we'll need and where to report this issue?

     

    How do I report a Flash Player crash to Adobe?

     

    I'd like to recommend anyone else who is locking up, specifically after coming back from hibernation (or sleep) to post back on this thread so I can get a feel for how common this is.

    Thanks for the reply.

    No, my computers do not have the same spec, they are very different. After you wake the computer, did you try to manipulate the flash player for a bit? In my case, it does not freeze right away. It happens when I try to click on the flash player few times, for example click play, click pause, fast forward, backward. Can you try to do some actions instead of my letting it play straight? Try up to 5 minutes.

    Also, before you hibernate the computer, did you close your firefox? In my case, I do not close my firefox, and I leave the youtube clip there without close the tab.

     

    Please also make sure you are doing hibernate, not standby. By default, windows uses standby, you have to go to control panel to enable hibernate.

     

    Do you want me to file a bug? I want to make sure people have the same problem before filing.

    I've tried playing around for 10 minutes after resuming from hibernation but it still didn't occur.  I've left Firefox open before hibernating and tried after the video completed and hibernating during playback.

     

    We did have a bug similar to this in a older build but it should have been fixed in the build you're using.  Could you try disabling hardware acceleration to see if that makes any difference?

     

    How do I disable or enable hardware acceleration?

    Hello! I just registered only to tell you that I am experiencing exactly the same behaviour.

     

    This has been happening also with FF 8 and 9 and the problem persists with 10:

     

    On Windows 7 x64 when I wake the system up from hibernation and FF was open when the PC was send to hibernate the browser freezes when I open a new tab with a website containing flash element - which can also be the Google Doodle.

     

    I first speculated about FF addons but this also happens w/o any add on. Also disabling Memory Cache of FF didn't help. I am using the latest 64-Bit Flash version but also experienced this behaviour when I was still using the 32-Bit version (before the x64 flash was available).

     

    I will also try disabling HW acceleration (it was ENABLED).

    News: Since I deactivated the HW acceleration in the Flash preferences the crashes of FF 10 have been significantly reduced! Hope this will be fix in the future for all situations - even with HW acc enabled.

    I've had this same issue with W7, Firefox 13 and 14. After resume from hibernate, FF is VERY slow to become responsive, though system monitor claims it's using very little CPU, and maybe 200MB RAM. About 10% of the time, I also get a message that Flash 11 crashed. Happened to me just now when the only open tab was BBC News.

    Got this issue too on w7 64bit, FF 14,  if i try to watch flash content after sleep browser starts freezing and becomes really unresponsive..

    I have the same problem. Disabling HW acceleration does not help. I'm pretty sure it's related to flash, because hibernation works just fine if I just have a blank screen open in FF. But if I hibernate with gmail open in FF, then it takes a long long time to resume FF(on the order of 5-10 mins). Like the others have reported, it doesn't seem to be using any CPU, it just takes a long time to start working again. I have the latest Flash and the latest FF.

    I'd recommend opening a bug report on this at bugbase.adobe.com.  This might be a tough one to fix though if we can't reproduce the problem internally.  Any hardware information (dxdiag report), browser, url, etc. that you can give us would be appreciated.  In addition, you might want to give our 11.4 beta a try to see if it still reproduces there.
