dxf file creation

Feb 8, 2012 2:25 AM

Hi,

I need to generate a dxf file from Illustrator that allows me to use this file with the nesting programs.

I have three identical objects composed of individual paths, grouped and placed in the same layer.

My nesting program (in general) is able to recognize the individual elements and then to arrange the graphic part on top of them with the step&repeat, but if I use a dxf exported from me, it not work, because it not recognize the one_up....

What should I do?

I am not familiar with the program you are rferring to but what you might try is saving the file as an .eps instead of a dxf if the program supports .esp import.

Also is it possible to place a .pdf in this program if so you can try that as well or perhaps even better just place and .ai file if it is supported.

Have you tried to copy from Illustrator and paste that in your nesting program?

A group in Illustrator is not the same as a block ( internal ) or xref (external) in AutoCAD DXF. Have you ever had success importing any other format from Illustrator into your nesting program.

If the nesting program works like I think it does, just export one occurrence ( the one_up ) out of Illustrator, and let the nesting program handle the step/repeat.

We haven't even touched on how Illustrator messes up DXF files with bezier curves.
