Am I over-cautious?

Feb 8, 2012 9:02 AM

I prepared PDF proofs (Commenting enabled) for a 16-page document with 4 dozen anchored FPOs, backmatter for an art book to be printed in Asia.  The copy-editor wanted to enter corrections directly in my Windows IDCS4 file using Mac IDCS5.5.  I suggested that changing platforms could cause problems because the job uses Type 1 fonts with a 1991 Adobe copyright (I'd have chosen Opentype if only to automate OSF); I also noted issues associated with conversions to IDSC5/5.5 from older versions.  My worries were dismissed as groundless.  Am I just a worrywort?

You’ll have way more problems because of CS5.5 than anything else. He can use your fonts but the text engine is different and text will reflow.

Totally as long as they know what they’re doing. Those Type 1 fonts have to go into the InDesign/Fonts folder on the Mac and will only be available to InDesign.

But of course, YOU won't be able to do any additional editing in CS4 once the file is saved in CS5.5...
